Does AWS pay SDRs commission?

I am interviewing for an SDR role at Amazon AWS at the moment and just read a Glassdoor review that mentioned they only found out after doing all rounds of interview that they don’t pay their SDR commission??? Is this normal?!

I’ve done 2 rounds with them now and never spoke about salary. Besides the interviewers, the only person I have been dealing with is their Recruiting Coordinator. Should I ask them about the commission now or wait till the end?

If you think it would be a waste of your time to move forward without commission then I'd go ahead and ask. The recruiter knows.

Why on earth would you wait until the end to ask about the most important thing?

100% agree, Sales in every facet is all about making money. You should always understand how you get paid.

In fact if I was hiring someone for a sales role and they didn't bring up comp it would be a red flag.

Food for thought: Commercial Insurance Account Executives/Managers don't make commission and do most of the work for their brokers. It would not surprise me if Amazon didn't pay their SDRs commission on deals since their sales structure is fairly complex. However, at my startup, I pay SDRs commission on qualified ops.

I've had conversations with people about my service and they don't ask about the cost.  That's how I know they aren't interested in buying.

Ask about commission.

No commission at AWS.
Your comp plan is two pronged. Your base (can't be negotiated) and the stock options. Spread over 4 years (to keep you). The stock can usually be bumped up with your recruiter.

There is a signing bonus, on year 1 and 2 usually.

Stock vests over the 4 years. Nice numbers. Esp with the current price.

Great thank you. This is very helpful.

The other comment you mentioned about not staying in sales and internal postings - do you mind elaborating on this? So  my short term plan is to get into an SDR role and move into Inside sales, AE etc.

Yeah, say your soul gets crushed and you don't want to be in sales. Amazon will send you to school to be a nurse. No joke.

You're not getting into AWS to stay in sales, be honest. The internal postings once your foot is in the door is why you want in.
