Focus Days

My company just created Focus Day where there are no internal meetings on that day, which is great, but it really turned into a 4 day work week (also sick lol).

Anyone else have a Focus day implemented? working? I think its dumb as shit

Honestly, I'd love a 4 day work week. I'd likely still work a bit on that 5th day but it would be nice to have the option not to if I didn't have anything going on.

Define forced, thats when the ole "sorry a deal im working on only time to meet is this time ill ping ya later" comes into play

That's what I'd usually do if my manager wasn't so anal about zoom "happy hours", that term itself is rather ironic on its own lol.

Good concept, tbh. Nice if you can then either use it to focus on whatever OR use it to schedule things like doctor, tune-up, dentist, etc. If this then means that all other meetings are now deemed extra extra mandatory though, then it's a miss.

True statement, and no they are not deemed anything besides what they always were. Nothing changes but a couple more meetings spread through other days in the week

we have focus days. but no one even follows it.

I think those are more for non sales ppl too. like we dont have THAT many internal meetings that we need to not have ANY on fridays.

Also if a prospect wants to meet on that friday im for sure taking the call and bringing anyone else that needs to be on in with me haha

Oh for sure, sales is exempt from this if a prospect wants to talk, also previous meetings i was also exempt because a prospect needed to talk lol.

Mixed reviews so far, Ill circle back after a couple months and let you know if it stuck and was helpful or we went back to normal

There should be more of them! Where you focus your energy will follow and flow. I am a big believer in time blocking my schedule. Let's face it: most meetings are nonproductive time wasters.

Sounds amazing, did the amount of internal meetings go down or did they all move to other days?

exactly what you would expect, they moved to other days

I am actually surprised by that. If there is a bigger push to have the employees focus then there should be some meetings outright cancelled or have less frequent.

Slightly different : We have a no sales call day every Wednesday. It’s a great break from the rest of the week, to do all your follow ups, update your pipeline (our weekly pipeline review is a 2pm every Wednesday) as well as go through your assigned tasks after the weekly

Also, we have a policy that internal meetings are only allowed in the morning for the sales team as afternoon is dedicated to sales calls

In the end, most of them happen on mondays.

Though we’re a full remote company so setting such strict timetables is also to foster collaboration through shared availability

Our company does it for certain departments but not for anyone on the sales/CS side.

yeah i get that, but internal meetings are the real killer, i will still take customer and prospect calls on fridays, just nice to not listen to the internal bullshit once a week

Totally agree, for months people have pressed leadership to scale back some department wide/company wide internal meetings which haven’t exactly been heard or acted upon by leadership

promising trials of the 4 day work week in Europe, hopefully we adapt it to in my working career. We may ruin the planet for our kids but i think they will have a bettter work life than us lol
