“Fully remote.” *in Atlanta

Like any sales person worth their salt - I'm always casually looking for a new job. I keep coming across jobs that are "fully remote" but then you have to be in a given geography. Isn't this total BS? like what's the point of being remote????

**edit** This is a totally remote role (no in person customers). They just have a main office in ATL and do meetings there sometime.

You might be “fully remote” as in work from home and be away from corporate. but they will want you close to your customer base so you can easily set up face-to-face meetings and be within a somewhat drive-able distance.

Fairly standard for some roles in my industry, especially on the manufacturing side.

Yeah. Makes sense if your customers are in an area but this is actually a totally remote customer base too. Which is why it doesn’t make sense…

Oh weird, is their office in Atlanta? So maybe you work from home until called upon to come into the office for meetings?

Nope. Literally always been a fully remote company. 10 years.

I’ve seen a few other posting like this that just make me so confused. I’ve worked remote and had a territory assigned (which makes sense) but truly remote and have to live somewhere is wack

Strange. Are you able to ask them why?

Ok this is odd. What is their reasoning?

Could it possibly affect their taxes or credits somehow? Maybe Atlanta has a credit for employee residents..idk...I'm trained to always think money reasons.

Is it a remote role, but they want you to meet clients in person and the clients are in Atlanta?

It’s a totally remote role (all clients and work is remote). But they have an office there and I guess do meetings on a weekly/monthly basis

They might be anticipating some regional travel at some point.

Most times the posting is remote but the company is located in the region the job is posted in. I believe there is an issue with job visibility and applicant pool if you post it as a remote role without a location listed.

Yeah, company I work for is "fully remote" but based out of the city I live in (they have 4 such "hubs" in the US). They anticipate eventually having a shared office space and maybe doing a once a week in-office workday. Plus they like being able to do different events with the teams (mini golf, happy hour, etc.).

HVAC said it best, remote as in work from home but you are expected to in a rough vicinity to a area of customers you are likely to be responsible.

I.e. if f2f is needed in Atlanta, they dont need or want someone working from Seattle.

Same as what I'm facing sometimes, when trying to apply for jobs worldwide for remote sales roles and got rejected for living in a different country.
What I've learned then was not to believe what's been written till you know the full truth about it,much of luck!

A lot of times this can be because their HR/payroll isn't set up for multiple states since several have different tax codes. Otherwise they probably plan on having office days and in person events down the line.
