Ghosted 3rd round interview

Happy Sunday everyone! I have been a SDR at my company for almost a year now but the pay is horrendous 42.5k base 55k OTE. I've been doing interviews for the past couple months and had a company where it went all the way to the final round of the interviews process (3 interview rounds)z The two sales managers said how much they loved me and I just needed to talk with the VP of business development for the last interview. The interview honestly seemed more like her selling their company which isn't hard because they are a top 20 company on RepVue and my pay would double. Long story short, I was told I would be reached back out in October to tell me if I got the job or not. I haven't heard anything back and have emailed/attempted to connect on linkedin/and even called, (thanks to my current job having Zoominfo) and haven't heard back. At this point I have completely moved on and am working on but is it typical to be fully ghosted after three interviews? I'm pretty use too being ghosted after an interview with a recruiter but after three interviews this just feels unprofessional. Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this so i can better temper my expectations. Cheers!

I hope it’s not typical. It’s extremely unprofessional to not give you any response at all.

Glad to hear I am not crazy. I do hundreds of cold calls a day so I’m pretty numb to rejection at this point. It’s just a little frustrating to not at least receive feedback but on to the next :)

Yea it happens but usually not at this stage. Unprofessional to say the least.

Just was such a good base of 65k so it would quite literally be life altering. I am looking to propose to a long time girlfriend and need to save up for a ring but you might be right. I appreciate this outlook!

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Very unprofessional but it happens. Usually not around the 3rd interview stage though.

I would imagine they either (1)
have another candidate they are trying to move forward with but don’t want to cut bait with you, (2) the vp is one of those Uber-busy people who doesn’t have time for anything, or (3) they have trouble handing out bad news and feel
It’s easier to wait till you just go away.

They could in the very least let this person know they have or haven't made a decision. This is unacceptable.

This is what I think is the right answer. They said during the final interview is, “I don’t like to fire so just want to make sure who ever I hire is the right fit”. I followed up with if there is any question marks I could speak to let me know. Thanks for your prospective I really appreciate it!

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I just waited 3 months for a company to tell me they were going in a different direction. I didn’t really care, or need the job, but the length of time between communications was unprofessional.

It happens.

Good luck in job hunting!

It’s pretty bad for a sales org to do this, but also a good learning experience for working actual deals. People are going to ghost you, and if they do it can either be on how you presented your solution or for internal reasons on the prospects behalf. Generally speaking, those who ghost aren’t going to do business with you, they should be fairly responsive if they’re legitimately interested. Even if they do business with you, they’re typically not great to work with.

Follow up with them for sure, but don’t be afraid to voluntarily DQ yourself and ask for feedback if you aren’t getting anywhere.

Yeah I’ve followed up multiple times via email,LinkedIn, and even pulled phone numbers on Zoominfo but it’s just crickets. I’ll shoot one more email over. Thanks brother for the response:)

Might be a possibility. It’s just weird I even left a voicemail but I guess even sometimes sales people don’t like confrontation.

The best thing you did is to move on.. I had bad such bad experience with 2 big companies but I never cared. It’s their loss

It’s wild. It is so easy to send an email after I invested 3 hours into interviewing and 3 more in preparing.

any company that ghosts in the interview process is a company you don't want to work for. It says a lot about them and their culture.

It’s just kinda crazy because the company is really legit in terms of size and product + compensation plan. Thank you for saying this though I know you are right.

its crazy the size of companies that do this. this is something you would expect from young orgs with inexperienced recruiters. but large companies are just as bad if not worse about it

I mean I totally get it if it was just the recruiter but it’s all the way too the VP of sales ghosting me. Nuts.

Not best practices yet something I have encountered quite a bit in the past 6 months of actively interviewing. The rule of thumb if ANYONE ever ghosts you is that they are "Running from themselves."

I wouldn't say it's common, but it definitely happens. Companies can be so inconsiderate. Maybe something really mission critical came up and caused them to refocus their efforts temporarily...but how hard is it to send a quick email or make a short phone call to communicate that? Good luck finding a better gig.
