Good closets are bad sellers. Agree or disagree?

I read Gap Selling by Keenan recently and in it he says, “good closets are bad sellers” meaning if you have to do all these crazy closing techniques you didn’t do a good enough job in the beginning understanding the problem and finding a solution.

Do you agree with his general statement?

Good closets are bad sellers

Well my closet doesn’t leave the house much so idk, but the doors seem to close just fine?

You need to have a balance of both “selling” and “closing”, to me those are separate but not mutually exclusive skills

LOL, I was thinking that the autocorrect on the original post missed a golden opportunity to throw "cellars" in as well.

As long as the closet doesn’t have any shelving, don’t wanna give a prospect a place to shelve the deal.

I always get a deal signed after a few days of locking my prospect in the closet, so I'd say it's pretty good at selling.

Hey GlenRoss,

Thanks for your question.

Closets have a large amount of display space, which makes them ideal for featuring pieces or wares; but it's critical to remember to leave the doors open.

I've been burned before.

Hope that helps, and that your new closet brings you much commish.

Cheers,

Cabbie

"Closing" works great with small level sales where you do not need to build a long-term relationship with a seller. These are things like retail sales (TVs, Cars, one-call-close products.)

Most B2B sales require working together for 90 days or longer. There is no jedi-mind trick to make people like you for that long. You need to be authentic and build trust. "Closing" people when you have to work with them for that period of time will likely only lead to headaches and broken contracts.
