My husband got to watch our oldest (a girl, who had him wrapped around her finger from the moment she was born) have her commencement yesterday and earn her BS. He was a (happy) emotional wreck last night after we got home. It’s been a good weekend.
I know all the big moments are coming and I am NOT ready.
You’ll never truly be ready. I’m sending my youngest off to college in another state in August after he’s spending a month away in a different state over the summer being a coach/camp counselor.
If you’re successful as a parent, you’ll have likable kids who then leave you to go off and do their own thing. It is hard!
That said, enjoy every moment. They will not forget time spent with you. Ever.

Kids rocked my world. Also led to sobriety, weight loss, and better handle on dealing with mental health.

When we change for the benefit of others we, as humans, are at our finest. Proud of you for making the changes that benefited your family and yourself. I’m sure those will pay off for the moments that come after drop-off at whatever school they choose. Or don’t. We aren’t in control anymore.

My husband is older than I am, and worried about having children who would graduate from HS when he was in his 60s. My answer to that is, if everything aligns, you’re going to be that age anyway, with or without children. And life will be so much more interesting WITH.

My dude will be going to ASU’s Fulton School of Engineering. Daughter is taking a year after BS to do some internships before applying to vet school. Super exciting but yes, they are young adults and headed off into the world.

It has worked for me. I'm missing my kids terribly right now. I'm not ready to be an empty-nester, but here we are.
I mean, logically I'm ready. Emotionally, I'm not. It's such a bittersweet time. I'm so very proud of them, but I also really miss having my nuclear family here.
