Has Anyone Successfully "Coached Up"

What does it mean to Coach Up?

"To improve someone's skills or abilities by coaching or instructing them. A noun or pronoun can be used between "coach" and "up." I could tell she had a ton of raw talent. She just needed someone to coach her up."

We have talked about Coaching Up on this platform a decent amount on this platform, but has anyone actually successfully coached up a bad manager? I am not saying the manager you have a great relationship and needed to work out something small. But when you are butting heads with a manager or they are a big micro-manager, has anyone ever been able to have a conversation that solves it.

Would love your input

Read people skills books, learn said people skills, and use those newly acquired people skills to talk to the manager and coach them without them even know it.

That is 100% the easiest one, "coaching up" a bad manager seems like an uphill battle

I ultimately changed jobs as well - and from a distance, have watched that manager's career fizz out as he gets more and more undesirable divisions to manage.

I guess it depends on how "bad" the manager is. some things can he improved, others are just never going to change
