Higher Base/Lower Comm or Higher Comm/LowerBase

Would to get some insight on what the community prefers with our current structure:

Industry Agnostic
Avg Lifecylce 2-4weeks
Avg ARR 1.5k USD
100% Inbound ( All RR: trials and demo requests)
Avg attainment for quota is around 25-50%
Comp is based on a point system dependent on the plan type.

Happy to provide further information to get your opinions if needed!

thats a pretty short sales cycle and since its 100% inbound, having a lower base higher commission wouldn't be too bad.

But do the math!

Avg comm per deal is around $200 as it due to being on a point system (13%).Thank you for the feedback!

I am sure most would prefer high base/high comm lol. What are the actual numbers? I would definitely look at other parts as well - If the avg quota attainment is so less, is the company doing anything to improve - restructuring the sales team etc.? What’s the employee turnover?

Haha! That’s the dream :)

There are things in the works, and I know you can’t have the best of both worlds, so want to give my input to leadership to help the rest of the team succeed. Team of 8 atm.

Agree. Extra because of the low attainment.

All inbound, SMB quick-cycle, cool. Why is the avg attainment so low? Lead volume? Lead quality? Seller capability? Quotas unreasonable? They can’t all suck.

For me: Higher base in this scenario

Most reps will take the known vs the unknown.

Agree with others as well, quota attainment seems very low for 100% inbound. A seasoned rep is going to pass on the opportunity all together I'd guess.

Never accept one or the other.

You deserve a higher base if you are meeting your goals.
Higher commissions are trash as you cannot guarantee them and everything can be done to keep them from being attainable.

Like you said. Attainment is 25%-50%.

It's not about betting on yourself. It's about getting paid.

Higher base is guaranteed money. I like gambling and calculations but honestly you don't know what will happen.

Is it uncapped commission? Then you can have high base and high commission.

Higher base helps with bills, high rent, if you're applying for a mortgage etc. A lot of banks won't care about commission, only average commission.

Avg attainment seems low
