The War Room
Question

How long did it take you to realize LinkedIn was just as full of influencers as every other social media site?

It took me longer than I'd care to admit. Some how I didn't pick up on that instead of people posting highly edited photos of themselves in amazing locations, LinkedIn had "Sales Pros" touting self-published books and making fun of the bad sales outreach they get.

Once the amount of videos I see walking down the street filming basically "budget TED talks" in my feed passed legitimate posts. That or the "this approach is dead" posts with like 3 spaces under the first line so you have to click.Β

Yeah, that definitely was when I started noticing my own use of LinkedIn stop being for anything more than things directly related to my job (prospect research, brand awareness posts, etc.)

I don't think including personal things on Linkedin makes is like Facebook - at least not always. Many times personal stories can teach business lessons.Β

Exactly! All of the sudden LinkedIn became FB. It's frustrating.Β

No I don't want to see political shit.

Yes I want to see if you're bringing awareness to a cause.

I don't post shit about my company because I am not my company. You will however see my thoughts on topics I find relevant.Β

Believe it or not, it took awhile - then I noticed the same people commenting on the same shit, ALL THE TIME.Β  Linkedin (especially for sellers) is SO LAME.Β Β

I think they all comment and like each other's posts as a way to help one another make it to the top of all the feeds.Β

Yup, they commonly refer to the strategy as "engagement pods".Β  TBH, its been one of the reasons I'm so active on this forum.Β  LI was starting to really annoy me.Β

Two names: Grant Cardone and Gary V. Honestly, Gary is much better in some ways than Grant. But I had had enough of both within a few months of signing up on LinkedIn

LI annoys the shit out of me.Β

No one is real since their name is attached to it and you can't tell how things REALLY are.Β

Part of the reason why I love reddit and Bravado.Β

Yeah I agree. It seems like everyone is trying to be an influencer there, which is annoying as hell.

What do you sell? I don't get a ton of value from it for prospecting, but my markets are pretty minimally engaged on LinkedIn.

Too long! I uses to think LinkedIn influencers were so cool the first year or so on the platform then I realized they're no better then teenage Tik Tok Stars.

Once every human with an iPhone started posting videos and content like they’re Gary V or GC.

No judgment, but sometimes it’s a little much.

Special mention to the selfie style β€œmorning motivation while running” videos.Β

Nothing quite like a small, manicured "snapshot" into how great someone is at everything to really motivate you right!?

Oh yea so much it's becoming annoying and they are becoming worse than IG being under the same pressure to keep on posting.Β

Top two moments:

(1) When I realized people farm likes by posting about how hard it is to be an SDR.

(2) When I saw how many fucking posts had the same exact comments: ("Wow, this was super inspiring!"). That Zoe Hartsfield lady must be in like twenty engagement pods with how many generic comments she always gets lol.

Once, as a young sales rep

I thought LinkedIn was innocent

Normal

Loving

But then I realized...

THE INFLUENCERS HAD COME

You know how I knew?

Because they did this thing

Where they would space out their posts

Like this

With line breaks

After

Every

FUCKING

Word

Just throwing this out there, mainstream social media would benefit from the "upvote/downvote" function.
