How would you get back in the game?

Hey Everyone,

In short, I have 5 years successful experience selling, but have been out of the game for a couple years, looking to get back into it.

Any advice?

Context below for anyone who's interested.

I was in B2B sales as a freight broker for 5 years between 2015-2020. Loved helping my clients, but didn't align with the tactics employed by that company, so I eventually left. To work here, you had to sign a 1-year Non-compete, meaning I couldn't work in the logistics industry without getting sued. Yes, they would sue you and the company that hired you, simply to prove a point, no matter the cost. This company had a reputation for destroying the careers of brokers who left the company. I know because they liked to brag about it. Something along the lines of, "...We've won 100% of the suits we've filed against those violating our non-competes..."

So, I had to find another option.

After leaving, I starting my own RV rental business that did well for about a year, but ended up shutting it down after 18 months for a multitude of reasons.

After that, I started providing drone services full time as a contractor, something I had done as a side gig since 2017. This was a decent gig, but it was labor intensive, and kept me traveling 2-3 weeks every month, which didn't work well for me or my family.

After about 8 months of that, I was offered a full time position managing inventory and operations for a local company, which requires a couple of weeks of travel every quarter, but mostly in the office, or working from home every day. The job is good, but room for growth, specifically pay, is not there.

Basically, I had a bad taste in my mouth when I left sales, thinking that every company I try to sell for would be the same, so I took another route. Now, it's been a few years, and I've seen the potential for sales out there, and I want to get back in the game.

I wasn't a rockstar, never went to president's club, but I was reliable, dependable, consistent, and competent. I care about the client's needs, and my clients loved working with me. Ensuring a good fit is at the top of my list.

Thank you in advance for any insight!

If you were in freight, no shame in looking at freight softwares and logistics softwares to sell.

Nah, don't feel like an idiot. Sometimes things are too close for us to see them clearly and it takes someone else to help point them out.

What were some softwares that you came across and used during your time away from sales? Could be a great starting point as you were at one point your target persona

That's a fair point! I've looked into a few before, but not as a serious option.
I'm going to make a list and go from there.
Thank you for the idea!

Best of luck! It's how I found that I love selling to sales. I have been in their shoes and know what it's like!
