Hubspot Interview, any advice?

Hey everyone!

I have a final interview with Hubspot.

Final step is a long one.. three separate interviews for 45 minutes with three different sales manager.

Here is the prompt -- In no particular order you will be tested on two attributes with each respective manager. The groupings of attributes being Figure it out Factor + Accountability, Growth Mindset + Intellectual Curiosity and Resilience + Commitment to Win. Each conversation will be competency-based, so the Managers will be looking for you to provide examples of times you have demonstrated a specific attribute we've identified important for this role. With any competency based interview, the best answers follow the STAR method. This is an acronym for Situation, Task, Action and Result.

Any advice on how to handle this? Ive been writing down stories and things to call back on from my career so far. I am just wondering if I am missing anything?

What questions should I ask these three different managers?

Any advice is appreciated!

Sounds like a lot of fluff, I personally dont follow through with organizations that have convoluted or performative processes.

I’m biased but my advice: apply somewhere else.

I never worked for hubspot and its a good looking logo on a resume but I rejected them because the salary range wasn’t high enough. They upped the salary, I reached out to the same recruiter, our previous exchanges were enjoyable but they had no recollection of it, which is fine, but treated me with a skepticism that seemed unwarranted… they hired one of the weakest sales people at an org I worked at previously for the same role.

I was asked to break down a deal i closed which involved multiple stakeholders, which I did in pretty great detail. They wanted a 2nd example but I didn’t have anything top of mind with the same level of detail and was pretty much instantly dismissed as a result of that… This was also just a screening call with the recruiter so I wasn’t expecting to have to break down a win, let alone 2 wins…

Maybe it’s just me but my eyes are on the next deal. I don’t make a habit of documenting my wins to use as reference for interviews. I probably should. That’s kind of what the Win Wire is for… But also, fuck off.

That was my experience with them. I also don’t have much patience these days for interviews where I’m made to feel like I have to fight to showcase my value as opposed to a 2 way dialogue with an interested party that allows me to assess for fit as well.

Had a similar experience in their interview process. A Sales Manager at a previous org, who was very very good went to HS. This started a trend of AE's jumping ship as well, but the people that left were always in the bottom 1/4 of the stack rank.

If it's in person, wear pants. If it's remote, don't.

I did this for an interview there a few years back. I felt I did very well but did not get the job. So def pretty competitive. They did follow up the very next day at the least

If you're on the job hunt, this is not a total waste of time, if only to practice your interview skills. They're not asking you to create a plan or do an intense amount of homework. Not a bad idea to conceptualize your approach and try to see how well your planning worked, and your ability to think on your feet.
Is this in person, or remote?
If remote, I might write down "STAR" and what each word means and stick it where you can see it by your monitor so you don't get thrown off, but also aren't overtly looking down at a cheat sheet.

Hubspot loves the smell of their own farts so be ready to ask subjectively complex questions which signal you can handle and regurgitate Cambridge mindsets. That is if you want them to like you.

If you want to see if the job is a good fit for you (all that matters) then ID your key needs and ask all three managers the same questions to see if you're getting consistent answers. Sales is fact finding, not impressing.

As an aside, have had numerous friends/acquaintances works there over the year and not one of them could succinctly describe what they work on. YMMV depending on what you're looking for.

Had the interview yesterday. I thought I came in very prepared. Actually found HubSpot blogs on all of those fluffy attributes listed above. So that helped tailor some stories around them.
I gave it my best shot and felt it went really well. Sent thoughtful thank you emails this morning ( if that actually means anything anymore). If I don't get the job thats their loss not mine. I won't be upset and will take it as a great learning experience.
