I’m Interviewing For a Job I Don’t Really Want

I don't want to sound ungrateful. I'm not.
here's the shpeil:

I was contacted by xyz company multiple times, I ignored it. This recruiter is so persistant, eventually I wrote back with the intention to honor his efforts.

The pay is great, I have to wear a uniform (I hate this) I have to be on the road (I also hate that) but I need the $$$

If this was you, what would you do?

My girl is telling me to play dumb. I know she's right, but my heart is telling me otherwise.

In my mind, it's like this:
if you're hiring me for a sales job, don't you wanna see my skills live? I'm a good listener, I don't talk much, I ask intriguing questions, I have no fn fear, I'm the guy I'd hire for a position like that. Wouldn't you? I don't get managers 🤬

Do I sound too desperate? IDK...

Dude it sounds like you literally know the answer to your questions. You're not exactly asking us much, more like venting. Which is fine, but this is a vacuous post.

Ey man that's what we are here for. I'm guilty of it myself, I got politely checked on my first post and deleted it, re-started.
My question to you would be this; what is making you consider the switch? Is it the salary? How would you qualify your correct disposition at the gig you are at now?

I don’t want to delete this post. I hope someone who see how I am now and then later what I became. Maybe it’s more for myself than someone else. Idk. But I feel like I have big bros here who would check me when I get out of line. And I’m forever grateful for that.

To answer your quesh:

I’m considering this role because the one I thought I was really good for passed on me.

It hurt me a lot. But I moved on pretty quickly.

I have a web dev service I sell for myself but not financially there yet.

On the other hand, I need to get paid.

See? I’m figuring it out as you guys are helping me. Thanks again

Not saying you should. I delete mine cuz I mentioned names directly, company name, etc. Quasi-doxing myself and others. No bueno.
Pis criss, j'viens de voir que t'es a Montréal.
I guess the answer then, after what you shared, depends on the strain you are experiencing right now. If it is only a temporary, put on the uniform, smile and take the juicy paycheck.
If you think you can find something better, hold off.

Nothing wrong with a "practice interview" to keep your interviewing skills up and just to see what's out there. I have interviewed at several places where I have no intention of working. That said, it seems like you're not looking at it in the ways I described. The recruiter is just trying to hit a number. Best to be honest with everyone here.

Agreed, doing an interview doesn’t hurt anyone. And if you need to pay the bills, take the job and keep looking.

And hey maybe you’ll end up liking it.

How’s the uniform look?

The uniform isn’t bad and after more research I realized it’s also physical. Like I’d be lifting and moving gear around. The pay is also not as I expected for all that extra work.

This morning I received an email and they decided to move to forward in the process.

It’s a good feeling I won’t lie. I just might be too picky. I’m gonna go through the process and shadow one of their guys and get a better feel.

Maybe that’ll help.

Haha yes I just know this cuz the recruiters they have r relentless and I know they require a uniform and so on. I did not research this first thing that came up I’m like this sounds like Cintas.

Are you gonna make the move?

I’m going to move forward with the process for the sake of it.

If the pay was much better, I’d go thru with it as I’ve done some labour work in the past.

But I decided to give myself a shot and make my own calls, sell my own services, and see what happens.

Also I feel like this role would prevent me from seeing that plan through.

just cause you interview, doesn't mean youre gonna get the job, also doesn't mean you have to accept it if you get it. if you need the money take the job if you get it, youre not obligated to stay either

Do you still wear a full suit to your 1st meeting with a prospect, or is that completely dust now and feel like a used car salesman?
