in office inferiors, hybrid superiors

I've been inferior for some time now.

I'm being elevated to a superior.

I work hybrid (3 days in, 2 days WFH)

My future inferiors work in office 100%..head honcho prefers it that way. But they're my team now.

-Bad look for me to work hybrid, them in office?

-Do i grant hybrid flexibility against bosses wishes?

-How could i approach the optics of the situation?

I'm not going to say it looks bad, but it looks a lot better if you hold yourself to the same standard. Meaning if they are expected 100% in office, you probably should as well.

If you can grant they hybrid flexibility against your boss's wishes without causing problems. Do it. If you can't, then plead your case to the boss, go to bat for your team and get them the same flexibility.

Work in office with these guys for a while, talk to the head shed about those guys being allowed the same flexibility as yourself. Maybe come to an agreement of some kind of milestone that has to be hit. Work alongside your team until they achieve it and when they do everyone gets to enjoy the benefits of the hybrid model.ย

Tough.

You maintain the status quo and it might backfire since your new team can start having some resentment sooner or later.ย

You grant the hybrid flexibility and your boss comes on to you and rips you apart.

Maybe you support your inferiors first-hand for the initial few weeks, gain their trust and go back to being you?

Though I like the other ideas given in comments as well.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I guess background here matters. Did you have to specifically ask for WFH permission? If so, then speak to whomever your boss is about getting your team on the same schedule.

"Do as I say, not as I do". If I was forced to be in an office 100% and was being labeled as "inferior", I'd likely think my manager is a major pos.ย

If you'd like continue the status quo of your uppers dictating all the other reps work 100% in office, then don't expect them to respect you as a leader. If you're not making their lives the slightest bit easier, then they'll look down on you despite your "superior" position.ย

I would go for this option " Do i grant hybrid flexibility against bosses wishes?"ย
Ultimately you are put in that position as team lead/management to do a job and you can say you need to do the job your way, which is giving your team more freedom.ย

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
You should be there for team meetings and away when there is no reason to meet as a team.ย  I wouldn't go against the boss.ย ย

Optically - its a perk of the job.

It looks terrible if thereโ€™s rules for thee and not for me. Especially if you just got promoted to leading a team. Are you scared of losing talent if you are permanent โ€œinferior?โ€ If yes thatโ€™s a great positioning for your argument to any superiorย
