Interview responses

is it me or are companies even worse at responding to interviewees?

I've been interviewing for several months with a few moving to additional interviews. in many cases I get ghosted on my followups and when I do hear back they have decided to either "go in a different direction" or hired someone else.

Many companies are pathetic at it. As soon as you're rejected, you're almost dead to them. They wouldn't care to respond or tell you that you didn't get through.

When you stop hearing back from 'em, know in your heart it's time to move on!

Interviews be like

Panelist: Are you a virgin?
Le me: What?
Panelist: You noob! Do you have work-ex?
Le me: I resign.

LMAO! I just found this too. I get that it's LinkedIn-y, but there is a point here.

I think it’s a lot of lost budgets/head count and hiring freezes. Causing ambiguity around the number of hires and when they will be able hire again. Leading to huge delays in responses.

Also since sales are low, a lot of managers are probably stressed about their number and might be late on emailing feedback too

It can be both. Many companies are claiming to be going through rough times; even if you are great they have decided they don’t want to hire.

Many companies won’t be nice to you to give you the feedback if you are rejected. I would move on to the next one!

Yeah, I've had a company that I made it all the way to the 4th round with tell me they wouldn't provide any feedback as to why they didn't hire me.

I managed to negotiate for a scrap of info by highlighting how they went through the trouble of flying me out to SF, booking a hotel, and going through an entire day of interviewing with me. The reason I was given essentially boils down to one woman not liking that I talked about one of my previous employers in a negative light.

Although, I'm pretty sure the real reason is they decided to not hire for the position at all because the day of my interview was the first day SF went into a state of emergency for covid...

All I can say is that it takes really really long for some of these companies to even make up their minds to hire someone, and right as they're about to do that, they restructure the sales org or have a hiring freeze, and they get stuck. It can be like trying to get a government job...takes months and months.

I'm very sorry for anybody going through this. You deserve to be treated well.

I just received a rejection email back in November for a position I applied to LAST YEAR.

Wow! That’s pretty bad. I received a call in August out of the blue and it was for a job I applied for in June.

I’ve experienced this too- for internal and external interviews. I always side with treating the hiring manager or recruiter as a prospect and well- prospecting the job. This shows your chops as a hunter plus your commit to the potential role. Ive had one hiring manager tell me that it’s why I got the job. Good luck!

That's pathetic policy most of companies have unfortunately, only very few that keen on sending an apology letter or a real feedback.

Most companies do not even give a response to interviewees, not without multiple followups.

And as for the companies that do give a response, they would rather keep the candidates hanging than muster up the balls to say "We c an't hire you because....".

Send a followup note 4 days after the interview, and if you don't hear back - Send a thank you note and move on.
