Interview Ghosting

Had 3 interviews and all went well. VP of sales said he was scheduling the HR talk to finalize the salary and benefits. haven't heard anything in 2 weeks. I followed up once with the VP and once with HR. This will be the third week, have they ghosted me?

Here's your email to the VP:

Subject: Still here.

Body:

Hi X,

Thank you again for speaking with me on [Enter date here]. You let me know that the next step would be connecting with HR to finalize the salary and benefits for the role, but I have not heard anything.

I am still very much interested in joining [enter company], but is the feeling mutual? Please let me know how we can get the process up and running again.

Thanks,

I actually agree with this email. Short, factual, zero emotion, and shows you are still interested. If they still ghost after sending this bad boy then move on.

Yup. Also, consider if you actually want to work for a company that ghosts for weeks well into the interview process. It would be a red flag worth keeping in mind for me, even if they ended up coming back with an offer.

This is solid. I would definitely try this and give benefit of the doubt if the process was as amiable as you mentioned.
But keep other irons in the fire until you have an offer in hand.

I have been hired a month after the final interview. So there is still chance, I would keep applying to other jobs during this time, if they ghosted you, their loss, you’ll find a better spot for you, is the type of mentality that keeps me going!

Shit happens and people get super busy, I've had that happen and it worked out in my favor. Follow what @poweredbycaffeine said and see what happens.

maybe they are busy, but you should follow up just to closure.

Maybe busy, maybe working on an offer. Ive seen where that can take a month to go through approvals all the way up the chain, espicially if its outside the norm they would offer.
did anyone respond to your follow up? And maybe send a thank you gift/note.

In this case I would say it's simple common courtesy to send updates every week or two so folks like @Novaredneck aren't left in the dark wondering if they've been ghosted. Besides, until I start my first day I'm still going to be entertaining any offers from other potential jobs and may very well just end up somewhere else.

Good way to lose great candidates if you ask me.

Genuine question, how many offers have you accepted after signing with a different company?

Curious what your thought process is in signing with a new company if you are going to continually interview elsewhere.

"..until I start my first day.." Was a poor choice of words. "Until I've signed an offer" would have been more appropriate. However, if I had just signed and I later got a "killer" offer somewhere else I might very well take it. Obviously would be some resentment from the company I just signed with but it is what it is.

That being said the closest I have come to that scenario was I was sent an offer that I had every intention of signing after bringing my wife up to speed and made that known, only to sign with someone else the next day because it paid a lot better. Ended up being a mistake though because the better pay didn't make up for the rest of the bullshit that took place there.

Got it, makes a lot more sense.

The second part of your response is exactly why I asked the question haha.

I've learned the hard way that better pay doesn't equal better opportunity.
