Is all of tech on fire right now?

Hey guys,

Decided I finally need to leave my company.

It's been a blood bath for the past 3 years, ever since we were bought out by private equity. Just had our fifth major reorg/round of firings.

I'm at a channel partner for a major cloud provider, and I'm sick of being said major cloud provider's bitch.

My company is short on delivery managers, customer engineers, and account managers. However, they keep hiring sales people. So I end up using a lot of my time doing everyone else's job, and resources are getting stretched thinner.

However, I don't want to jump from one shit show to another, and tech seems like a mess right now.

What's it like out there for my other tech people? Is there anywhere good to jump to?

Update: my CRO dangled a potential leadership role for next year and I got the raise I was long overdue on, after he gassed me up in front of the rest of sales leadership(I was not in the room). I've also looked at a couple of jobs and it seems pretty bleak right now. Sigh, these mofos got me for a little bit

Just go anywhere that you're valued. Having been a part of layoffs within last year, I'm done job hopping. My current company is outstanding, they value me, and give full autonomy.

Been mentioned on here a few times but freight, medical and security tech seems to be keeping strong, could be worth a sniff in that direction?

See @gasty’s post this morning? Some quality opps out there. Personally- I’ve never seen such incompetence on display. Post layoff I had a choice of 3. Took the least shitty. If you’re solid where you are and just have to do 125% of a normal job. You may wanna hang

There are good companies out there, so honestly, start looking.

Sorry to hear your current situation isn't great. Funny how some can get it so wrong.

Greed is getting flushed out of the system - tons of opps if you know where to look.

It certainly feels like it. I was hoping to get a better job, but part of me wonders if it be better to stay put and just take on a side job or something to boost my income to where I want it to be.

You have to be okay with where you are today … money vs. bs … is it good enough to deal with for a long time? Also, if you don’t have it in writing, it doesn’t mean anything. I did something similar and ended up being so miserable while I “waited”.

Money I'm making now is enough to survive on, but only as long as my wife is also working and splitting expenses.

You sound too frustrated, in this situation I would try to fish a new opp. My company had a lot of restructuring but at a leadership level which sucks as well because vision shifts everytime :)

Channels is a tough one, but security/auth and FinTech are starting to scale up again after the previous layoff rounds. I have seen a lot of new VC-backed companies as well. Do you want to stay in tech?

Short answer yes, every tech/software company is being scrutinized heavily because of a few bad apples and investors not wanting to look bad to the LPs that fund their insane venture rounds. You also mentioned that private equity bought you out and those are where the most horror stories come from, sorry.

Just a shitshow. Rising rates means compressed profit margins. Especially high growth companies get crushed.
