Is the hiring manager putting me off and ghosting ๐Ÿ‘ป

I had my first interview with the hiring manager, a VP at a Fortune 1000. She invited me to come into the office to meet her. Then I get this email:

"<redacted>,

Thank you for your note below. I appreciate your strong interest and am so glad you have a great impression of <redacted> and the role.

Next week has become quite challenging for me; so much so that, I now need to stay the entire week for more meetings. I apologize but will not be able to meet you in person.

Please note that <redacted - recruiter's name> will get back to you, but we will need a week or two.

Sincerely,

<redacted>

<end>

I do know she was interviewing other candidates besides me last week...is this an honest email? Or is she just trying to put me, her 3rd or 4th choice, on the backburner while she meets in person with other candidates?

Hard to say. She may have realized that interviewing and hiring is more than she can eat. Definitely a form letter. You probably weren't the only one to get it. Keep the pedal down if you want the shot.

I agree with OC's take. It's not necessarily indicative of bad things, so keep on going. If you were getting ghosted I don't think you'd receive this, or at least it wouldn't have an excuse.

It's definitely not what you want though.

@oldcloser I'm connecting with the in-house recruiter again tomorrow, to ask some questions about the role. Do you think it's appropriate to ask, "So, am I in the running?"

I think you're giving it too much thought. If you're connecting with their recruiter, how could you not be under consideration? I don't think it would hurt to ask if your candidacy is being considered after the chat... but you may get your answer well before then.

Youโ€™re not being ghosted when sheโ€™s actually responding and/or reaching out.

Yep. This isnโ€™t a โ€œgoing a different directionโ€ email.

Iโ€™m as paranoid as the next person, but as of now, this seems like pretty open communication. Refreshing.

How long ago was that email? If it just happened you may want to proactively contact the recruiter.

Of itโ€™s already been 2 weeks then this was likely their way of telling you no.

Interview was last Thursday, email from VP was Saturday. So, very recent.

Could be either or. I wouldnโ€™t read too much into it and just proceed as normal. Happy searching!

A response is better than nothing, follow up with the recruiter and get rescheduled

This happened to my buddy and then they just rescheduled for a video interview. But his got rescheduled for a 30 minute interview at the same time as the original interview. So itโ€™s a little weird she said we need a week or 2

you'll know in a week or 2 if they actually get back to you but wont hurt to reiterate the value of you

Hard to tell from this note. Stay close to the recruiter and ask frankly if the the recruiter is dark on you
