Is there a place for humour in enterprise SaaS sales?

After hundreds of meetings with prospects working in large enterprises these past 3 years, I`m beginning to wonder if people working in 10,000 employees+ companies are turning into a sort of corporate drones?

So many I meet on these calls (demos, discoveries..) seem devoid of all sense of humour...

I`m not a huge fan of small talk, and will never drag a meeting by getting into details of which club i support etc. however, I still think a bit of small talk and a few mild and appropriate jokes are a necessity.

If we can`t have at least a laugh or two on a 60 minutes meeting, what the hell are we even doing ๐Ÿ˜…

Do you savages find this to be the reality with you as well? Or is this only true for corporate HR/HRIT (where I`m selling)?

You know, whether or not there is a place, I'm just going to go ahead and insert it...

I can't help myself. I crave real, direct speech between individuals. It can have its downside, as some folks are uppity. But yeah, a little humour shows the human side of things...

A little humor doesn't hurt - if it's your personality. Being warm and natural is my goal. I love a good joke as much as anybody, but it's not an open mike standup competition and a little goes a long way.

But - you do you. Is it effective? Does it win you champions and deals? Then it works for you.

Not for me personally but I also run these meetings. They don't wanna laugh at one of my beautifully crafted jokes? That's cool. They will by the end of the meeting. I am me ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸฆŠ

Youโ€™re building that rapport all along. Humor works on most people. :)

Edit: unnecessary plural. Humors only exist in Victorian times.

If I canโ€™t get a laugh, at least a little one, in every conversation, Iโ€™m out. Iโ€™d like to think that Iโ€™ve survived the grind this long due to an ability to make it painless to interact with me.

The whole point of my job is to build relationships on a local level with the leaders in my industry. If we're not cracking jokes, we're doing it wrong.

Humor sounds way more original than being robotic asking about the weather.
I use it also here whenever I have a chance, just get things handled smoothly you have to show the human part of you!

Ask the prospect to look in a mirror that you just pulled out of your bag. They're the joke...

comes with the territory, if you can get them to crack smiles and such though the sales cycle can be so much better for them too.
