Job application auto-reject

So after being impacted by another corporate mass layoff in tech sales, once again I'm back on the job hunt with thousands of other Enterprise AEs.

I did discover a trend that some companies have a system in place looking if you have "job hopped" they auto reject your application and never gets seen. It has now happened at three companies, and validated the process with leaders there who never saw my application even come through the system.

The last two years I've be impacted by two corporate layoffs and the third job I left because the next org offered a $50k base increase. So my question is to ask what others have done and or impacted by the same situation. Prior to the last two years I've stayed at companies multiple years until the opportunity for growth doesn't exist anymore. If you lie about your work experience I'm sure it could be caught when people do background checks.

Just frustrating being a top performer winning multiple awards, and constantly getting the door slammed in your face without even getting a look. Right now I've just being trying to connect directly with hiring managers and VPs and anyone willing to take a chance on me.

Any insight others are doing and or experiencing would be helpful!

I haven't heard about a ATS auto-rejecting due to job hopping, since they will typically auto-reject from the Y/N questions asked when you apply. Salary, work status, & ability to come to the office are typically the main ones.

If that's true, its pretty dumb to auto reject without knowing the story why people move. Because a lot of the time, the interviewers would also leave for a 50k base bump or the many other reasons why some people leave

Yes when I actually get to speak with the recruiters they always start off saying…let’s talk about the elephant in the room if your last two years of employment. Once I break it down to them they totally flip the switch and are willing to continue the interview at that point and understand my recent challenges.

It sounds to me as though you've found the way in the door - go direct to the recruiters and not rely on the uploads.

Another thing I hate is personality assessments that wastes an hour of your time so they can determine you know what synonyms are and determine what type of person you are before ever speaking with you

Extremely short-sighted on an organization to do this...

I'd reach out to as many hiring managers directly as possible. Maybe pay for the extra features on LinkedIn for 1 month while job hunting to send more messages.

So sorry friend, stay positive. Something great is coming.

Yes it’s unfortunate and even with LI premium you only get five credits / month then have to pay much more after that if you want to keep going.

Your resume is what YOU make of it. You should not lie on it, but you don’t have to tell them everything. If you think you are being considered a job hopper then you need to make the dates on your résumé more appealing.

I’ve worked with resume people and put in my resume I was impacted by layoffs or role reduced because xyz, however if the issue is still the system auto rejects me then I don’t even have my resume reviewed by a human.

The ATS doesn’t see your explanation, just dates. If the ATS rejects it than no one will ever see it.

So I guess how would one get by that system without lying on the dates you have entered for it?

Hiring managers may also be raising requirements to an absurd degree. Applying through the portal is a losing strategy. Most orgs are suffering from low inbound lead flow, so I think a lot of hiring managers are deliberately blocking and screening people to weed out those who won't do outreach to stakeholders.....

How would they define job hopping? seems to me they ll lose a lot of good candidates this way. Especially in sales job hopping is quite normal

Try to send an email to the recruiter to know the actual status to see if it was a technical glitch to be fixed or to know the reason behind the rejection if your weren't actually selected.

Best of luck!

I am sick and tired of looking for jobs in Sales. A nurse and a construction engineer get jobs in Tech Sales, while a product owner has to beg them on LinkedIn for an opportunity to prove himself.
