Job Offers from Recruiters on LinkedIn

When I was a young kiddo - I went to a college fair. All the state schools were there, and various private ones too. But I couldn't find any of the Ivy leagues. Not like I had a snowball's chance in hell of getting into one. But I found it odd. Went home afterwards and shared my confusion with the parentals. My Dad erupted in booming laughter. He explained "Schools like Harvard and Yale won't be at college fairs, because they don't need to advertise. They've got far more applicants than openings, and that won't be changing any time soon."

Connecting that story back to our Sales lives: I'm sure everyone in this community gets hit up by recruiters on a weekly, possibly a daily, basis. Should I relate the same logic that my Dad taught me in my youth? Are there some diamonds in the rough? Has anyone accepted one of these job offers off LinkedIn and found the gig to be awesome?

PS - I assume that there are some Recruiters here on Bravado, since it's a Sales career. I respect your game, and frankly enjoy the attention y'all provide.

In this market, not necessarily. Sure the big brands like Salesforce, etc likely get a ton of โ€œinboundโ€ but that doesnโ€™t mean they donโ€™t have recruiters who are actively pursuing talent. Itโ€™s just like sales. Just because a company gets a lot of inbound, doesnโ€™t mean they shouldnโ€™t be attacking outbound as well

I had a Salesforce recruiter reach out to me last week. Granted it was for their Mulesoft group...but still. So I guess the answer is the best brands are still doing outbound.

Even the best schools go out and recruit top talent but don't make a whole public production out of it - same applies to the workplace.ย

Best of luck on the battlefield!

Agree with LordBiz, though they get tons of inbound, they do outreach to find the right fit

agree with everyone here, also doesnt account for startups that might be awesome but dont have the "Ivy League" recognition yet

Blow it up
I got hired into my current position from a recruiting agency that found me on LI. The real opps are few and far between but they do exist.

@LordOfWar - appreciate you validating a concern regarding the good opportunities presented by recruiters. Spoke with a headhunter yesterday that said he was offering me a โ€œwinning lottery ticketโ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿšฉ

Yeah...that's some over-enthusiastic bullshit and would turn me off right away. Recruiters are a different breed.

My attitude tends to be to treat them as though they are real in terms of how I respond and engage but don't expect anything out of it. I make them play by my terms and on my schedule.ย

I use them as benchmarks for my value and to hype myself up to push for what I want where I am.ย  The last few times I asked for way more than I get currently since I'm comfy so it will take a lot to lure me away from my current place.

Every single "Harvard and Yale" of Tech/Software/whatever will have a well-funded internal recruitment team to tease out people who aren't looking. It's usually to build pipeline for when their attrition rates go wild over the holiday period or they get a bunch of funding.ย

Third party recruiters will have a mixed bag. Could be an unbelievable startup with no internal team or a steaming pile of crap that nobody will touch. Just tell them what you're looking for and if they can't immediately sell back to your need then you know their clients will be garbageย
