Just be a nice person on calls

I'm convinced that a key way to have productive meetings internally and externally is to just be a nice person to talk to.

like have a personality,be curious and don't be a corporate robot.

I've found if I'm able to "pattern interupt" with a story or something that's just kinda real ppl relax and it seems to help.

ex:
"hey tennis how's the day going?"

me: "oh it's going great Bob, but not as good as my daughter. she just found out we are going to have chick fill a for lunch and she is running around SUPER pumped"

instead of just saying:
"oh it's a good day! everything is going well!"

having kids is an easy one cus they are always doing something wild.

It works 9 times out of 10. That last person is a soulless creep nobody likes.

10000%! Adding in that human element is so important and could really set the stage for the rest of your conversations with prospects & clients. It's refreshing to know that people still think & talk about things outside of work.

An example I have - I used to hate when my dogs barked during calls. I thought it was so embarrassing, especially when everyone was just starting to work from home. But now, I noticed it almost like it relaxes people & they laugh it off with me. Again, it's adding in that human (or I guess animal) element that builds stronger relationships

Totally agree. Personal anecdotes are gold as long as their not too personal. Daughter excited about chic fil a is perfect. Son hit a home run at little league last night... yeah.

My sister had a genital wart removed... probably wouldn't use that.

Sharing parts of your life let’s people get comfortable and let their guard down, good way to build relationships and trust.

And to your point you want to do this internally and externally, internal stakeholders are just as important to create good relationships with.

I think it's really easy to fall into the second with people you aren't as familiar with, but by not being that person, it can make a world of difference

I have a new baby so I’ve been using “got my first full nights sleep in 8 months so I feel like superman!” I totally agree with the being nice part, that’s my card to play right now. I’m in an industry where I can’t really differentiate what I do compared to a lot of my competitors, so my goal is to get the clients to see that dealing with me will just be a nicer experience

I have no interest in small talk. We should stop getting people to be more human in transactional relationships.

How true. It may be old fashioned but I actually try to get to know my clients and colleagues by doing the 3-part Qu. I asking what they did on the weekend with at least two other questions about whatever mention. It just gels with them and makes them feel like I care.
On a parting note, I had a great weekend with my kids and walking the dog. My football team won also.

Good idea. I need to steal happy go lucky stories from people with kids.

What part of the country do you find most open to meetings and to taking cold calls?

How many times will you call a prospect after they don't answer the first time? At what frequency? I typically don't make a lot of repeat calls, just call with volume consistently and try to catch folks at the right time...

NGL sometimes it's nice to have a day with no prospect meetings
