Is this a job offer or first talks with a recruiter?

If it's an offer dig into the company as much as you can to see if there's even a remote possibility of being laid off in 3 months if the economy sinks any further.

The reality is, if it pays 3x what you're making now, so long as you continued living according to your current salary and were able to stay on at least 3 months, you'll have enough saved up in the event of layoffs to hold you over while you look for another job. Even still though, job hunting whilst unemployed really sucks. Something to think about.

If this is just a recruiter reaching out to you to start the interview process. Set up an interview, no harm in learning more.

qualify qualify qualify qualify qualify qualify
I was burned on my last change for not qualifying the company, previous history of product, territory, manager, prior employees, turnover, quota, quota attainment in the past, path to hit quota etc really basic questions now that I look back on it and hiring process was wayyy too easy (2 interviews and similar to you pay raise ((only 33% but still made me jump on it))).

lessons learned, yes 3x is dope but be hesitant IMHO / if 2 gud 2 b tru then :-/ maybe it ain't meant to be

Unironically hope it does work out for you tho! Best of luck mate !

This was going to be my question. Who on earth thinks this is a good idea in a bear market watching the VC money collapse in freaking real time?!

Solid offer, or recruiter giving you their numbers?

If it's just the recruiter reaching out, vet the job thoroughly the way you'd do any process and see if it's a fit, etc. You'll have a better sense of whether or not the reward is worth the risk once you've gone through the process a bit more.

I'd be worried about how long they'd be around. Sure 3x salary is great, but not for just a month. I'm a worrier. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

You just realized you're vastly underpaid. But personally I'd never go work for a web 3 startup because you'll likely be unemployed in a year.

Considering the cash going into the space, I disagree. This is selling the pick axes and Leviโ€™s jeans to the new gold rush. Check out the Gartner hype cycle, itโ€™s currently shaking out the BS and getting ready for long term growth.

Ok so name one successful company. The only thing I can think of are cold wallet storage, which is a very small TAM.

Industry is based on fraudhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/javierpaz/2022/08/26/more-than-half-of-all-bitcoin-trades-are-fake/?sh=582e52d46681)

Block, consensys, coinbase, IBM (hyper ledger, and a few other business lines), LVHM (multiple NFTs), Tiffanyโ€™s (just had a drop), and I can go on. Those are just top of mind, not including the finance companies or the betting sites. There are a handful of identity and compliance companies that use it as well.

I don't see it catching on with mainstream after they were left holding the bag during bull run. I've seen stats that most people who bought are deeply underwater.

Look at the charts for block and coinbase.

NFTs are money grabs for greater fools.

And I've yet to run into an actual use of blockchain in the wild -- or hear it explained in a way that is better than using a traditional database.

If you're in the web3/crypto/defi community, you probably disagree, but to me that's a symptom. People who are in are all in, and suffering from sunk cost fallacy. Many (probably majority) of consumers and retails investors either think it's scammy or simply don't care.

Are you looking to take on risk right now? What could this lead to?
If you can stay there even a year, you've made 3x what you would have made by not going anywhere.

I would take the 3X salary and take the risk.

If it goes to shit and you get fired within the next like year, you have a great story and will be able to rebound. no one will blame you for taking the jump for that.

I guess I need to ask โ€œ3x of what?โ€

But high reward = high risk. You could be leaving a very stable job for a job you wonโ€™t have 6months from now. Or could show in a lambo in 6months.

3x your current salary!!!! Unless you didnโ€™t like the people you are interviewing with I would accept!

Worst case thinks donโ€™t work out but you should have so much more saved due to being paid 3x more

Clearly it is very tempting but knowing that they are offering such high pay seems like a red flag to me. Most startups tend to fail because 1) poor operations plan (look into this for this company) 2) high salaries to attract people (basically this eats away at their capital very quickly) 3) Failure to anticipate headwinds (this could be regulations, economic downturns, etc.) 4) Management team (have they run startups before and what happened to them; if not then stay away but if so did they "pump and dump")

I think your decision should be based on what is best for you and your family. If you are single and young then it is definitely worth the risk. If you are mid career then it still may be worth it but don't go making large purchases.

If it is a start up and you really want to pivot to Web3 research the following: 1) what series are they: seed, A, B or C etc. Be cautious if they donโ€™t have at least Series B. 2) Do they have a proven market product, what makes them better than their competitors that will allow them to excel above them? If not proven yet, it is high risk. 3) Are they able to run the company on the current revenues or are they relying on the investment cash, if so what is the burn rate and are they relying on the next round to keep them going? Risk if they need another round to keep the lights on. VCโ€™s are not spending like they did pre 2021. 4) Donโ€™t count the options (and you should get some at a startup) as income. It takes 10 years for companies either exit or go public, most people are jumping every 2-4 years. Cash is king.

If you can afford the risk, take the risk. If not, ride what you have until you either can afford more risk, the offering company becomes more established, or another less risky company makes a great offer.

Talk to the management, talk to their investors, CUSTOMERS, and get as much 1st-party feedback regarding how/what the startup will do to stay in business-- besides hiring you :)-- amidst the onset of fierce headwinds.

And if you belive in the startup's vision, and understand why it will work, then lead the weathering of the storm with the team. #MakeThat3XCount!

I advise you to take up the startup job because you have the experience and knowledge that so far you could need together from the huge company....
Second, it is paying more 3x your salary
I go for it

Some solid advice here - never move for salary unless you are being underpaid/valued - especially in a bear market like today - wish you luck
