Keep Networking

Great posts this week on people reconnecting with old co-workers and finding mentors.

Wanted to just plug how important it is to keep networking, in two ways.

  • First, for you. Build a pipeline/rolodex of potential new jobs, people to bounce ideas off of, leaders in the space who have a pulse on what's next
  • Second, for others. I took two calls this week from two sales interns who had reached out to me cold on LinkedIn. They came prepared, were bold enough to reach out to a stranger - we had no mutual connections. I referred one to a role at my current company and they've been through the first two rounds already this week with glowing feedback...I can almost taste the $3,500 referral bonus if things go well for them tomorrow.

Stay humble, stay hungry, pay it forward. Throw in some sass every once in a while.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Networking can indeed be a win-win (one person gets a job, another a referral bonus!).

Good on you for being open to a networking call too. I have run into so many who "can't be bothered" with someone who's reaching out to simply network for a better job.

I have leveraged my alma mater, previous employer connection, similar industry, LI groups, and many more angles when I have been job hunting with varied success. It can be disheartening.

Lesson learned though - when someone has the balls to reach out to me, I listen. If I think they are good - I help them out.

Like @LambyCorn having the interviewer slide in their DMs afterwards?

What made you respond to the two interns? Anything special about the message or you just looking to get that bonus

One of the interns had a strong profile and good background that aligns with what I thought would be a good fit at my current shop, combo that with referral bonus it was a no brainer. The other I could tell did research and called out two specific things from my background that stood out to them and it wasnโ€™t a canned โ€œwould like to pick your brainโ€ blast.
