Laid off prior to paternity leave

After making it through at least 6 rounds of layoffs it finally happened to me back in May. I loved my AE job there and like a dumb dumb thought I'd be in the clear because I was liked..

2 weeks prior to my paternity they "eliminated" my position. Not because of performance, just because of "changing business". When they were actually a good company to work for they implemented a 16 week parental leave policy. Now that they are in dire need of cash I feel like they absolutely effed me because I was about to take my time off and wouldn't be producing for them.

Had a lawyer send them a few letters about getting my paternity leave at least paid out to me. Got nowhere. The one good thing is I never signed shit so I don't need to keep my mouth shut about what shady shit they are up to.

They have absolutely been blasted on Glassdoor and I want to know how else I can expose their bs. Any ideas?

There is more to this story including a bs PIP they placed on me. But it's just another rant.

Try this: Let the whole fucking thing go. Inhale. Slow your brain down. Enjoy your newborn child. If you’re this tightly wound through childbirth and all of the most beautiful moments that come with it... you'll miss every bit of it.

Revenge is not a strategy for happiness.

If you're still pissed, and I'd be surprised if you were, after spending every waking moment with your SO and your new kid. Pick it up later. For now, its your obligation to be present... and that means every fucking waking moment for your wife and your child.

This bullshit will pass with the work deal. The kid will not. Go be a parent.

This is a perfect response.
I fully agree it's a massive load of horseshit, but I welcomed my firstborn just shy of 3 weeks ago and this is the answer. Utterly lifechanging, and it's hard to focus on anything bad as soon as you pick him/her up.
Enjoy these moments.

I bet! You’ll have to post a picture - we have little HVAC already shared. Don’t think we’ve seen little ASKhole yet, but maybe we can have a Kids Club post. Happy for you!

I'm probably overcautious, but don't want to post the little guy here publicly.
@Sunbunny31 let me know if you've got an iPhone, I can DM you one though :)

I'd echo @oldcloser's wise words here. The most powerful retaliation is refusing to mirror your enemy's traits.

I'm sorry for what happened, but you've got a sweet little joy bundle heading your way, so zero in on that, at least for now.

Welcome to the war room @jabroni !

Absolute gold. You get one time with your child - and that is worth more than a terrible job. Oldcloser is right here.

I’m sorry this all happened, but congratulations to you!

I got laid off 1 week before I was going to go on maternity leave, but in my case they weren’t evil and they did want me to get the benefits. They went about it improperly, but I managed to work it out so I did get the full leave. And this was ages ago, so I ended up with extended benefits due to 9/11.

Long story short: it was a blessing in disguise. I got to spend a year with my first that I wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise. That was awesome. I did have to make work sacrifices, there was definitely stress, but it all worked out beautifully in the long run and I’m better off than I would have been otherwise, even though it didn’t seem that way at some points along the way. Try to have some faith that things will work out, because they will, and enjoy the time.

Move on to your next good thing. The best revenge will be your success elsewhere.

They did but I didn’t sign. They offered me peanuts and fortunately I can live without it.

As tough as it may be, @oldcloser is spot on. This is not worth hanging on to. You have such limited time with your newborn and you are going to wish you had more time with them. Stressing about money and this stuff will do nothing good for you. Life tends to unfold as it should.

"Life tends to unfold as it should."Well put. The thing about 6 months later, it always seems to show up. And if it doesn't, it doesn't really matter.

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear this. Perhaps unfair dismissal? In many countries you could get compensation for this.

Bad time to take advantage of their “generous” policy.

Id be willing to bet you were out on the chopping block because you were about to take advantage of the paternity leave. If your lawyer got nowhere with letters then it’s time to sue them if you want the $$. That way they’d have to participate in Discovery and you’d get access to any emails, etc about your dismissal.

If you don’t want the $$ then move on, quickly.

You’re fucked. But if you really didn’t sign anything don’t be shy. Share the company name so people know in the future that they do shady shit

I had a really similar situation though not for parental leave but for something else private. I am sorry this happened to you and I know it sucks because I am facing it now as well. But I really believe eventually you get what you planted. So the joke´s on them!!!
