Medical Device Sales

Is there anyone with experience in medical device sales? Specifically in the OR. I have a couple of opportunities around surgical robotics and neurosurgical/some spine.

I am also interviewing at some tech companies as a BDR and would appreciate some insight from either side of the isle!

Thank you in advance!

I have a good friend who sells high dollar medical devices. Its feast or famine for him. He's had some incredible (>$500k) years and other years where he's barely made a dollar.

You're right. It's hard AF. But feast time is 🔥🔥🔥

Interesting. I know they like to cut territories at larger companies. My thoughts are, get in a place where you can learn it and growth will follow if you aren’t stupid. It seems like maybe the job security is better in device for now

All I found was a vs. thread. The two roles you're interviewing for a pretty different for a day to day life.
What are you prioritizing? Or why consider both?

I’m leaning toward medical device sales. Tech has the work from home lure and high income potential, but it doesn’t sound like as much fun early in my career!

Is this an ER role? You could always be on call. Medical device sales is not for the weak.

It would be in the OR, but capital equipment not just disposable aka only use it once items. It’s specifically with neurosurgery and spine

Those seem like wildly divergent roles. If you're looking at selling medical equipment, why wouldn't you go after a true sales role in tech, i.e. an AE position?

So is the med device sales role an actual AE position?

And you're looking at a starting position as SDR?

What's your experience to this point?

I just meant if anyone has experience with both. I am aware of more around device than tech in general. Does that make sense? I’m trying to learn things from the standpoint of ignorance to an extent
I have medical experience and SDR experience with a family background deep in medicine so device always had doors open for me.

I’m considering either a job as an anesthesiologist or one selling peanuts. How is this a real dilemma?

Hahaha. I’m more interested in healthcare and like the idea of being an asset in the OR. The healthcare landscape has changed and continues to change in many ways negative

Med Dev is solid, it will always be needed and if your product is pivotal to current trends you can absolutely make bank.
Do your own research on the company, the market for their products, and the competition.

Yes, over 20+ in the O.R. fire away with any and all questions. I also have experience with the robotic system DaVinci.

Just spoke with two DaVinci reps the past week! That’s even more of a unique sales role

Also, I am new to this app but I want to connect and learn. If you’ve spent time in the OR in sales, I would like to hear about it! Good, bad, ugly!
Thank you!

I heard it's quite volatile but it can pay some big bucks. (according to a friend of mine)

I’ve been messaging people in the company and those who left. Seems consistent. Networking in device has been easier in device for me.
