Microsoft internship referral

Hello everyone microsoft recently opened their sales internship program. I don’t have that many connections at all to all the big tech companies since I’m from a non target and a referral would help greatly.

I’m not really the smartest but I am disciplined that I even got a return offer to work part time at my current “tech sales” job. If you would like to. I would love to hop on the phone and ask questions about your day to day experiences at Microsoft.

Good luck.
Only thing I can tell you about Microsoft is that 2 of the worst bosses I ever had came from there. One of them was amongst the most toxic people I've ever met.

I interviewed once with Salesforce, and the manager there was toxic af. I wonder if it is with the bigger companies, or just my luck.

I think there's something about the big orgs. The toxic ones can more easily hide. If there are 100 people, personalities show through a lot more. If there are thousands, then as long as they produce/perform they just get by.

Hmmm I thought they were pretty stress free. But I'm willing to take the chance.

I interviewed with Microsoft years ago for a high level sales role. I got in the door by cold calling the DM, who I had to hunt down through 3 other people (sales, HR, and recruiters). I got to the 2nd round of interviews (=trip to Redmond, WA) by being BOLD and asking for the job.

I ended up being #2 only because the top candidate was on Obama's Technology Transition Team. Lesson learn - F'n Obama.

Real lesson learned - M'soft people want you to be bold. Don't just knock on the door - pound it down. Be bold. If you just "hit submit" online, you will NEVER get the job.

First: LinkedIn Search: Microsoft, click "Employees". Select 1 of the 225,781 people who work at Microsoft. Ask them.

Second: when asking for a referral (both anonymous and non-anonymous) why would you say "I'm not really the smartest"

Third: 74.5% of sales and interviewing for sales is selling yourself. you're only hurting yourself by adding that in.

MS definitely wants people that work smart not necessarily hard. They don’t call it the lazy M for nothing.

Ask yourself this… What about Microsoft makes you want to work for them?

Ok now do this… go to microsoft.com

Does that reason show up on the home page?

Probably not. Why? Because as you can see Microsoft’s #1 focus is sales/revenue. Not philanthropy, not employees, not customer satisfaction.

Not surprised, based on my experience with leaders that were ex-MS.
Can you elaborate at all? Definitely curious

Sure, so, one week in I started having calls with this lady who wasn't my direct manager, no one's direct manager but had good relationship with directors. Every week she would roast me about if I knew how to do my job... I called myself a seller in once call and she was like no don't you even know what it means to be an AE. AE and seller is a totally different job description. And do I even know how to do my job.... I had 2 years of AE experience but also the role was pretty junior. Then it was pandemic and everyone worked remote. She said I might be too young for this position and that I should talk to HR if I am allowed to drive to the office (note lockdowns were on and I was within 2 hours of the office)... It just broke me down. My direct manager was super, however she and this lady were going for the same director position so if my direct manager or any 8 people under her did anything wrong, this lady would stir up so much shit and say how my manager (she) is x nationality and incompetent.I once had to present about a customer a month in... I wasn't sure how to. This lady who was roasting me intended to throw me under a bus. Luckily I found Enterprise savage who helped me out and did a great presentation. Kicked ass. The roast lady was unhappy. Then I started in May... Got my books in August (MS financial year) and then they told me in September that I wasn't performing. Then I quit, burned all bridges, filed grievance with HR documenting everything and asked for resignation period to be extended while I looked for jobs.Basically because it was discrimination, I guess they were trying to keep me quiet. In the end, a year after I left, my direct manager who was super got the director spot and this lady who roasted me was demoted. I felt so broken for months though.SO DO NOT WORK FOR MICROSOFT IT IS AN EMPIRE OF EVIL.

Wow. Thanks for breaking that down. Sorry you had to go through that, and glad you're onto better things.

Ha a bit of a rant there 🤣 yeah she is awful but what comes around goes around and she didn't get promotion and I am aggressively competing against MS and telling everyone to do the same.... so on to the greener pastures
