My boss is inefficient at work.

I work designing training for sales and customer service positions, and my boss has been a pain lately.

We are way behind schedule and I want to turn in my work on time before I quit (the tasks are already automated, so I finish them in less than half the time), but my boss keeps sending me to review work from months ago and schedules 4 hour meetings to critique the work being produced.

Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome or deal with this problem with them?

Observe your boss for a couple of days and name what he does wrong and what he does right. What might be your reasons for the former? Put yourself in his or her shoes and then decide.

Understanding why your boss is concerned about certain things can give you a different perspective on your management style. Maybe, for example, instead of worrying about how much time you take for lunch, you are concerned about what other supervisors will say about your permissiveness with your workers.

No matter how 'bad' your supervisor's behavior is, don't let it affect your performance. You must maintain your effectiveness in order to be on good terms with other employees and managers, as well as preserve your job.

Try to have ready what you can anticipate your boss's wishes (and that you can carry out), this way you won't give unnecessary excuses to that type of supervisor who is usually waiting to see what 'hasn't been done' to gloat in constantly reminding him or her of it.

If you know what sets your boss off, avoid such possibilities. If what bothers your supervisor most is that you make mistakes when writing reports, be more careful in that regard.

Being patient is the first step in dealing with a difficult boss. He or she is going to find innovative ways to annoy you, no matter what. Therefore, working on your patience better will develop your ability to handle this person better.

Your confidence will help to cope with all the difficult situations that arise. When your boss sees your confidence, sooner or later he or she will give in. The only effective way to deal with a toxic boss is to show confidence in yourself.

A difficult boss is likely to blame you for things you are not remotely associated with. Therefore, it may be necessary to keep a record of all conversations. If he verbally assigns you certain work, be sure to send him a confirmation email. This will help you avoid problems later on.

If you haven't yet taken on this role, Dufour recommends that you earn the trust of your team members and be the one to communicate their problems and needs to the boss. "This can be intimidating, as it involves having to tell him things he may not want to hear. But the new status is worth it," he says.

Although many people try to placate an authoritarian by telling him exactly what he wants to hear and following his orders to the letter, "that's a big mistake," says Dufour. "You have to wait until you're convinced that your boss is making a major mistake that puts his or her own goals at risk, or until you come up with a better idea that you truly believe in."

Before you quit? Is your boss aware of your plans to quit? Is he/she the kind of person that is likely to try and make you look bad once you're gone to justify their own shortcomings? That's what it sounds like to me.
