I’m a fan of Jcrew Ludlow suiting. Perfect slim cut, and I usually go a size up and get them tailored into what I need. I have three suits from them, a pair of pants with a window pane check, and a bunch of shirts. I had one do the jackets tailored to be a hybrid so I could wear as a blazer with jeans.

J Crew also has awesome sales pretty frequently. There's a 60% off sale for a lot of their summer styles right now (I'm browsing it in another tab as I type this). If you've got an outlet nearby, you can get some great deals on some quality clothing as well.

Fun fact, the outlet is an entirely separate clothing line. None of it will ever crossover from the standard stores.

Huh, I always just assumed it was overstock or unsold items from last season.

Lulu ABC pant or Prana Brion pant. Suit supply Traveler blazer. Those are my staples, I’ve travelled the world with them and they’ll last you years. Mix and match with your button down or tshirt of choice.

I really like the "golf" pants for business attire - they are wrinkle resistant so you can ball them up and stain/water resistant so you can go through anything and they look like you stayed up all night ironing them to look perfect. Air flow is good too.

Beyond that, you know the more dangerous a person, the more coats they have. T-shirt, quarter zip, full zip fleece or blazer to give that I def do silly things with other peoples money look that every investment presenter ever wore.

Bonus points for switching out the T-shirt for a turtleneck.

The golf pants for real though, get em in like 3 colors and "forget about it".

What kind of budget are you in? I'd take a look at Suitsupply.com as my first port of call every time. Beautiful suits, shirts are always a great fit and look good. Italian fabrics at a good price. Not mega cheap, shirts are around $100-150 each, trousers $200-250 and a jacket around $400-500.

On a tighter budget? Check out Charles Thyrrit. British brand but the ship to US. Very good quality for the money and they have some great shirt deals, again great fits.

Last recommendation if you are not opposed to online shopping is a brand called Reiss. Another UK one, a bit more pricey (similar to suitsupply) but boy their clothes are sharp. This my go too brand whenever I'm visiting back home and I got a commish payout. They do ship as well

You can’t go wrong with Joseph A Banks stuff. Conservative and classic. Basically stuff you can use for the next 10 years.
Go with a classic blue blazer. Goes with nearly everything. Have some tan slacks, a very nice pair of jeans, and a couple different shirts including a nice white shirt. Again - classic look and goes with everything.

Also what jeans? I keep thinking i have jeans that look professional until i put a blazer on with them, then i realize i dont.

Another thread I'd love to pin for future reference.

I've heard great things about Collar and Co!

What's "super expensive"? I snagged a few pairs of extremely comfortable and great fitting pants from Express during their big holiday sale. Could easily wear them to a conference or on the golf course if needed.

Lululemon pants are a staple. The gold standard of business casual imo.

I’m a sweat collective member and I still haven’t bought those. I think I’m gonna give them a go.

Which pants do you have?

I swear by the ABC Pant classic. Use ‘em for golf and anything else in between.

Absolutely. Like they can’t pass for suit pants, but anything else you’re good. The comfort is unbeatable.

Invest in a custom-tailored suit and a couple of custom-tailored shirts. If you have the budget, get a pair of custom-made shoes as well. You may not need these items on a regular basis, but you will love having them for occasions where dressing for success are needed. I'm sure you have shops in your area that can help you out! For day-to-day things, stick to quality and classics. I'm not a guy, so it's a little hard for me to give you a long list of brands. My husband loves shirts from Mizzen+Main. I recently watched a show on mens' "must have" wardrobe essentials. You'll want a quality blazer, a dark suit (black or dark blue), a lighter weight suit (lighter color like cream or tan), and a textured fabric suit. You can mix and match with nice slacks (even dark jeans for some occasions) and get more "looks". I'd personally go to a high quality mens' clothier (custom suiting place) for some recommendations. You don't need to buy everything there. Just get ideas and shop around for some deals.

Here's an article I found that may help as well:

One last thought (sorry, I love clothes), if you're looking for a great looking pullover for the golf course, Peter Millar has great tops. Take a look:

Agree that custom tailored is a good investment. I have difficulty in buying anything off the rack, or even off the rack and tailored (6'5" / 200 lbs)

I use Proper Cloth https://propercloth.com/ for all my business wear. Not inexpensive, but the quality is there.

Take your ass to a tailor. Problem solved.

Find a tailor. Not some corporate retail shop. Dude who owns a place, maybe with his family, has solid clients, knows his shit.

Find a tailor. Set up appointment. Get it done.

If still in doubt, find a female friend and ask her to come with you to help decide.

Fun fact, it's really not that expensive. Remember, presentation matters. Wearing clothes that fit, are not loose, make you look like more of a baller, even if it is just a short sleeve polo that was 80 bucks, makes a difference.

P.S. You can also find nice stores with nice things and get them tailored for you. But if you don't know and need help, the personal touch will take you far.

When it comes to blazers/suits, I recommend Studio Suits ( https://www.studiosuits.com/). You can get bespoke fits as long as you know your measurements and get REALLY custom with materials/patterns/etc. for a really great price.

As @poweredbycaffeinesaid, JCrew is another great option for reasonable cost.
