Never Call Me AGAIN!

I'm sure some of you saw this clown on LinkedIn getting pretty much destroyed in the comments, top comment being from our own @GeneralCorp

I'll start by saying that I totally empathize. Getting solicitation calls on your cellphone can be draining. BUT... it's really common, especially post-pandemic, that the phone number us sales folks are getting from ZoomInfo, Apollo, etc. is someone's personal cell. Office lines basically don't exist anymore. Something these people probably don't understand without some context into how sales orgs work.

I know we've all had the classic "How did you get my cell phone number?" responses when cold calling. How do you normally respond when posed with that question/situation? Generally, I'm pretty transparent and try to bring a bit of levity to the situation.

"Didn't realize this was your cell, I'm just calling the numbers on my screen."

"I gotta be honest, I got this number from a database..."

I'll try to work an apology in there as well, but always go for the ask regardless.

Would be interested in hearing your best practices!

Only thing they're influencing is my urge to cold call them for the hell of it

Nowhere close to my ICP, but it'd be fun

To be a director of security engineering and purposely block possible vendors that could potentially help your business make more money or be more SECURE is not only stupid it, is borderline negligent.

Does she know we can see what company she works for? Lol

Had a guy answer his phone one time, tell me he is on a national do not call list and would report me, then told me how his kid is in sales and then booked a discovery call. was absolutely a wild time

Playing Devil's Advocate here, I think we should acknowledge that there are a lot of bad sellers in this environment and poorly coached SDRs that truly are a time drain for anyone they call. Maybe we need to coach sales teams on how to actually deliver value rather than spamming prospects.

Recommend to tell the truth here also that we got their numbers on a dial list and simply ask if you could move forward with your pitch.
I also keep apology available only as a last resort though, if they start to get pissed off!

I'm a fan of "Oh, apologies, I didn't realize that. What's a better number to call you on? Anyway, the reason I called is..."

Sometimes awkward beginnings are the meet cute you need to close a monster deal with a jerk who never answers their phone.

...and yeah, some people just suck and will say anything to feel big on the phone with a salesperson.
