Norms around raises

Hey hey! I read through some of the old posts on this, but have some questions around raises.

  1. In your organizations are annual raises normal? If yes, is the % applied to just the base salary, just the commission or both?

I ask because in 2022 my annual raise was applied to both base and commission, but this year it was only applied to my commission plan which felt very ehhhh, not cool, for lack of a better term, ha.

Well...they're calling it a raise but the increase was only applied to the commission plan, so sorta not really? It ends up being a 3% raise if the target is hit. So not much.

Effectively raising the % on your sales, yes? Itโ€™s a bump. I do think itโ€™s interesting that itโ€™s only applied to the commission - but in an economy where employers are nervous, getting a raise of any kind is a bit rare.

Raise? Iโ€™m in the โ€œyou make your own luckโ€ realm.

In a past life, the raise was applied to the base. The % comp didnโ€™t change, so it modestly adjusted the OTE as well.

Literally just got one that I didn't even push for. 50/50 split on both base and comms.

Definitely on base, but raises to commission percentage I don't see as often. Messes with calculations. Mostly I've seen companies raise quota....

Both traditionally as our variable split is 50/50.

Yea our split is also 50/50 and I assumed the % increase would be applied to both base and commission.

I'm going to put a slight spin on this. Just out of curiosity, has the product you're selling increased in cost to the consumer? If not, then did your product increase in price to the consumer in FY 2023 after your bump in commissions and base in 2022?
