One of my reps is pretty brash (competitive)

Apparently when he prospect told him who the competitor was, he said "I like our chances." Too much? Too impolite or hey, it's the truth.


This was post demo that he and the SE crushed. And, we are better than our competition, just more expensive. We've been crushing them in the space.

If he came across as assured and confident rather than a cocky asshole, you're probably fine. All in the delivery, with a receptive audience that already likes you.

AE: Heard of them and they do pop up a lot as a competitor. They have their strengths but I like our chances.

I think it depends on delivery. If it came out of confidence in the product, that's great. If it was more of a scoff at a competitor, probably less than ideal.

I guess that's the grey area. Was it a scoff or just confidence. Could've been just a brush off too. Probably came off as arrogant but no word from customers and he has clean next steps.

I have a strict rule of not talking about my competition. I sell what Iโ€™m there to offer. Iโ€™m not there to convince you โ€œtheyโ€ are bad. Just that Iโ€™m great. So to me that comment would be out of line. But everyoneโ€™s tone is different.

I flat out tell people we have the absolute best product in the space. I know that sounds like nonsense because Iโ€™m selling it, but do me a favor if you donโ€™t believe me. Tell them you are talking to me about X product, and tell me what they do.

I also represent strong knowledge of the industry, the processes involved in getting a strong ROI, and can display knowledge of their day to day business.

but yeah. I got that magic shit. Youโ€™ll know it for a fact when the competitor drops their pants to try and sell you theirs.

is it wrong if itโ€™s true? I promise youโ€™ll close your next date if you come off that confident.
