Outside Rep capped by KSO's due to bad consumption reporting

I have been at my company for over 4 1/2 years (first and only job out of college) and have climbed my way up to an outside rep position fairly quickly (I am very lucky in this instance, not trying to be a jerk). I have now been an outside rep for 2 years and have not had to carry a quota for almost the whole 2 years in the seat. I sell a SaaS product at a Hardware/Software company that has a lot of trouble tracking the consumption of the SaaS solution that I sell SO they have put us on KSO's (Key Sales Objectives) which was supposed to be temporary, but now looks permanent.

I would love to jump to another AE position, but I do not have as much experience as companies want to see and at the same time my company has treated me very well with internal promotions and raises. I have a lot of freedom to do what I want during the day as well. I have a house and cannot take a large pay cut.

I have 0 motivation to sell because I do not carry a quota nor can I hit more than the allotted KSO amount. I am bored and want to be able to "knock the cover off the ball" and go for 200% commission checks.

Looking for some input from other folks!

What would you do if you were me?

YEah just network real hard with your buddies and anyone you trust, family friends etc. It really is WHO YOU KNOW that helps land great jobs and there may be an opp right under your nose.

I have applied to 2 gigs so far, but both came back right away saying I do not have enough experience. I've been networking it with other folks, but no bites thus far. Any tips?

Keep at it. Two is nothing. You have the luxury of time. You’re in a role which is keeping you financially whole, so you can be methodical and keep at it.

I would continue looking AND at the same time reach out to recruitment firms that specialize in sales roles so that they have your profile handy when a great role opens up.

Most recruiters get paid by the company that hires you so you shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket while increasing your odds of finding something. Definitely don't pay for a recruiter.

There is also a LinkedIn setting that let's recruiters know that you are open to work without alerting your current employer or displaying the "open to work" tag on your profile picture.

(1) don't hire a recruiter
(2) Dont take a major pay cut

(3) Leverage your experience and look elsewhere. As far as metrics - don't lie, but you can certainly tell a prospective employer whatever you feel comfortable with as far as quota attainment when there is no quota to attain.

I don't quite know what an outside rep means, and what were you doing if you did not have quotas to carry for 2 years ? Like - how were you compensated? was it all fixed then?
A couple of confusions, my bad I'm a little unaware about this.

And - why don't you want to sell? Is that because you are seeking comfort over growth?

Why is it that you think you're taking a pay cut. I'm confusedddd.

An Outside rep is essentially a Enterprise Account Executive at my company. KSO are fixed comp checks that come in every 4 months, but they are capped at 125%, BUT the 125% is a percentage of my overall commission.
I don't want to sell because I will not be compensated on it, which I don't think is that selfish to say because we are sales people...we are coin operated.

It is a pay cut to move back to a commercial AE role.

Don't waste money on someone else selling you, you're in sales, sell yourself.

Cast some lines - don’t hire a recruiter though. That’s ridiculous. Since you’ve got free time during the day, it’s a great time to take calls and look for a new gig - ideally the right gig that fits what you’re looking for.

Set goals for yourself, why must you need someone to do it for. Is it base salary only position? You get to be outside and almost do what ever you want. That my friend is the best spot to be according to your story. Your in a dangerous zone call the, comfort zone. Start challenging yourself. Change your perspective.

If my employer has had lack of inventory for several months due to horrible planning and I haven’t been able to hit sales quota due to lack of inventory. I have about 2 months worth of goals in open POs. Should the company pay me commission?
