PLM Software

Recently received great feedback from y'all so I'm back again.

I started applying to jobs like crazy the last few days and have managed to snag and progress through two interviews already.

Since I'm coming from the world of media I've changed focus to martech firms, but already landed a few random interviews with other software companies.

I passed round 1 on two interviews yesterday - SMB AE for PLM Software and an SDR role for some business services something or other.

What's the world of PLM sales like? Any experience out there?

I used to sell PLM if you want to ask some specific questions.

For those asking itโ€™s Product Lifecycle Management and you primarily sell into engineers, operations, and quality departments

ah yes. Selling to engineers is fun(not), into ops challenging

I was part of a team buying/shopping PLM software a few years back, and the sale cycle seemed like it took forever - and then actually implementing it took AGES. The sales guys were generally just nice dudes, they had engineers to talk about anything technical.ย
-What's the lifecycle like?
-Is there a big leader in the market?
-My next interview is with my region's sales director tomorrow - is there any specific nuances to the job that could give me an edge?
-What do the salaries look like? I'm in Canada, so our wages are less than USA, but even so I couldn't find the company on repvue or similar services.

- The lifecycle can be long, even in the SMB space. My average cycle was around 90-120 days. As Sadness mentioned selling to engineers is not fun. They consistently try to get in the weeds and want to see every little button. In the world of PLM thatโ€™s miserable because the systems are so complex.

- Understanding initial life cycle of a company will help and understanding typical pains. PLM is a general shift in mindset not just a software. Learn about contract manufacturing and the issues they face. Itโ€™s basically taking people out of excel and into an intuitive system so play to that.

- I was an SMB rep and my pay was 80/80 for a 160 OTE. I cleared much more than that.

- The market is segmented. Large enterprise orgs like Oracle, Siemens, PTC dominate the large enterprise markets but arenโ€™t SaaS. Companies like Arena (now PTC) are the SaaS leaders in plm. Iโ€™d get in with a SaaS vendor and not on prem because the industry is shifting very quickly into cloud based.

If you want to share which company I can give you some insights into their pros/cons from a product standpoint.

I would say DM me so we can take this offline but apparently thatโ€™s too much to ask for these app developers.

Yeah, I tried finding a DM, but I guess those don't exist here. Thanks for that feedback

Company is Centric Software, some of their offerings are cloud based and sell into fashion/retail mainly.ย

I would stay away from retail. Try to get in with techy PLMs. Way more money.

Check out this job at Arena, a PTC Business: Account Executive https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/2942362785

^ Iโ€™m not here anymore but you could get an SMB role with these guys. Solid product and has different verticals to work in. (Medical device, government, high tech companies)

So update, I passed interview 2 with the sales director. It's for dassault systems - selling some cloud A/R visualization something something into cleantech channel. It sounds like it could bring in medium sized boat money. What do you think?ย
