Protecting Against Digital Eye Strain

Whether its father time catching up on me or just a dash of seasonal depression, I am starting to notice a lot of eye strain and just overall being more tired at the end of the day.

Given, we will be most likely spending 40 hours a week in-front of a laptop for the next 40 years. I really want to invest in tools to help, since I don't want my vision to be screwed as I continue to age.

I am putting my devices on the lowest brightness, but that doesn't seem to help too much.

Curious if anyone has a good experiences with Blue Light Blockers or any other solutions. Or is this just a necessary evil of working in the digital age?

download f.lux on your computer and it is software that will help with reducing eye strain. It will display color temp according to location and time of day. Have been using it for well over a year now and is helpful.

I've used flux for years. It's great.

I also use blue light filtering glasses, but am unconvinced as to their effectiveness.

Been reading more, seems like some say blue light glasses help a ton, others say it helps block but that only helps with falling asleep quicker and doesn't help against eye strain unfortunately.

Maybe taking breaks is the only key solution

I use blue light glasses from time to time. I don’t stare at a screen the whole day, but I did when I did.

I use reading glasses now, and have specific pairs for the screen - they help with the lighting.

That, and frequent breaks.

Just Amazon - computer glasses. It's been a while since I got them, so I honestly don't remember. They seem to work well, though.

I just did a presentation on side effects of a digital classroom and this is known issue in the Education space and here is what the “experts” that put together my deck included:

*Brightness should be as low as possible.
*Blue light filtering glasses.
*20/20/20 rule (every 20 mins you should focus on something 20ft away for 20 seconds)

Bigger screen helps. Less screen time too. Stand up desks help you not look 100% of the time at your computer.

Protect your head groin as much as you can. I always wear glasses with blue-wavelength blocking which help.
