Quest for stable employment: Part Deux - The narrowing

This, the result of 4 months of hard search that started early Feb when shot as a cost saving layoff.

No Product

Took founding seller/VP role at an ML co with zero product market fit. Lasted 3 months. Still technically there as a 1099, mostly to see pending deals through.

No Company

Currently on Day 6 at new IC role. As of this writing, my onboard has yielded: Direct deposit enrollment. W-9, IDโ€™s submitted. Office 365 access, complete with an email address and a sig. Friday I got platform access. A full week at this nightmare. No training outline, no policy. Nothing else.

The Rest

1. Had a terrific call last week about a fractional leadership role that could yield in the near future.

2. Just completed full panel interview for a VP Sales role with a starter/builder this morning. I was told to expect a call back by COB. I think I killed it. I think I expect an offer.

3. Just submitted full application, post phone screen, for a VP sales role at a public company.

4. Have a phone screen on Wednesday for an established private co.

If an offer comes today from #2, I'll accept it. Start date is 7/18. I bail from the stupid current situation, try to squeeze check #1 out of them and chase the others to a conclusion.

If anyone has navigated this kind of shit, and done it with a successful outcome, I'd love to hear it.

Week 1 of onboarding anywhere always feels unproductive. Such is the way of things. My current company is probably the worst I have ever had as far as onboarding, but its also a test to see if you'll stick it out or easily quit when the going gets tough.

I looked at a Fractional VP Sales gig a while ago and didn't really like it. Basically you come in with a bunch of sales automation tools, crack the whip, and manage by metrics. Not my way of doing things. But if you could do it for 3-4 companies, it might be an interesting gig.

I'd definitely keep looking. Of course, I never really stop looking.

In terms of the checks you are owed - salary or salary + commission? Have some experience hounding down employers for unpaid salary so LMK if this is your situation.

After I blow out of the current, I could see them getting nasty and not cutting the first salary check. Iโ€™m cool with all else. Good to know thereโ€™s a resource for future floggings. Much appreciated

Almost feels like OE out of necessity/survival. Bouncing from 1099/W2 is a future I hope many won't have to deal with.

It's definitely out of necessity. Not quite ready to hang it up just yet, so I must keep the income stream streaming. This is really as far as I can push it at one time. If I add more, I'll lose focus on the roles I want.

Either way, this is seemingly what it takes when the market is oversaturated and applicants come from all corners. It'll settle. I think.

You can overlap for a month without too much stress if you need to close things out. Generally, I avoid that as onboarding is extremely important, but it is an option. Otherwise, get yourself in the best role.

This is the opposite of a โ€œdamned if u do and damned If you donโ€™tโ€ type of situation. I agree with @Justatitle, youโ€™ve got this in the bag.
