Recruitment agencies Is it just me who never ever had luck with jobs through recruitment agencies

If I wanted to count the time I've spent talking to agency recruitmentment consultants it'd probably equal to days worth of air time lol however out of all the ones ive spoken and connected with only two opportunities translated to an offer but with all honesty they were the worste companies I've worked for and both jobs didn't last long. Where as I've had much better luck and opportunities applying directly or being approached by internal TAs directly. Is this just me or does everyone else feel like recruitment agencies is a waste of time?

As a former agency recruiter, it can be very hit or miss. There are a lot of bad recruiters out there that are just spray and pray with candidates.

But on the other hand they can be beneficial to narrow down opportunities, get you in front of direct line managers in front of others, and negotiate bigger starting salaries (because that means more commish for them too).

Best option is to pick one or two reputable recruiters who specialize in placing candidates in your field. ask them for other candidates references. Get to know them on a little more personal level too and build a relationship so you'll always be top of mind when a position comes up.

Also give a junior recruiter a shot too, they'll probably work harder for you.

Agency recruitment is just legal selling of people 😂

Yes too much of that spray and pray going on! And hasn’t changed over the years. Agree some recruiters are good but that’s rare

Honestly, recruiters who get picked up to fill specific roles are the best to work with. They always keep your best interests in mind since staying in the roll leads to them getting a bonus.

Always approach the employer's recruitment office directly if you believe you're a good fit whenever you have a chance.
As those middle-men are more caring of getting paid per head on each one of us, more than seeking you an actual opportunity that meets your set of skills and experiences you have, that's why probably you didn't find a good fit in the last 2 opportunities you got!

Recruiters are a double edged sword. Hate dealing with them but they are sometimes the only way in.

Every role I was placed in early in my career by an external recruiter was either a nightmare or a dead end. I learned the hard way that good companies and roles don’t use external recruiters because they don’t need to. There’s exceptions of course, but I’ve gotten far better results from direct applications/referrals and would never use an external recruiter again except for the absolute perfect role.

I used to feel this way, I will work with 2 agency recruiters that hit me up every once in a while and that's it. I will never in my life work with Michael Page, they are the absolute epitome of garbage recruitment agency

Every agency recruiter I've ever met with was a waste of time. We have a meeting, get aligned on expectations, etc. Then, a few days later I get told "we don't really have a match for you because we need candidates with 3-5 years of SaaS AE experience." I don't take it personally, but at this point I don't even entertain interacting with recruiters because it makes no sense in both of us wasting time.
