Sales - blessing or curse?

What's your why? Why are you in sales? And what was the best feeling you had as a result of something you did through your job?

My why is because I get to talk to people for a living, I get to build up businesses and make a difference. Plus it is always different.

Best feeling was a deal that changed the course of a client's business. It broke into a new market and is going from strength to strength

I like sales because I grow as a person and as a professional faster than anywhere else. I also get to solve customer challenges and help them to become better. I also enjoy the element of storytelling in the calls etc.

Great posts on this you hit the search bar.

Iโ€™m in sales because 2010 was peak financial crisis and the only job I could get was selling debt refinancing via credit card processing for small businesses along with near-predatory heavy equipment financing. Was pretty good at it and took it from there. 14 years later and Iโ€™m an AE again after being a Manager, Director and VP.

Director of Sales for a pre-seed startup. I was the only source of growth for a year. I was young and had way more energy to close 25+ deals a month.

Thatโ€™s awesome! Director of sales myself now but weโ€™re a larger org. Back when I was a field rep though it was easily 25 a month deals. Arely had time to do anything and I loved it!

I like sales because the results are in my control, and are very clearly laid out so I can see how Iโ€™m progressing. Iโ€™m also somewhat of an introvert, so sales has really given me the confidence in various social settings that I wouldnโ€™t of had if I didnโ€™t chose this career path. Meeting people from all over the world and sharing experiences has been really cool.

The monetary incentive helps too.

Iโ€™m in sales bc I knew very early on that I didnโ€™t want someone telling me what tf to do all day. Once I got a taste of The freedom, the responsibility, and the cash I was hooked!

The products I sell are what got me into the company. Saw the product was in awe of it and knew I could sell it to any and everyone.

If youโ€™re resilient sales is the shit!

I'll always take selling ice to people trapped in the desert over being able to sell it to an eskimo

I know I'm only answering the title, but it depends on the day (or month or quarter).

That being said, most people can't influence their own pay cheque in the ways that we can.

Very true - having control of what number on your cheque every month is definitely a blessing (even when you donโ€™t love that number)
