How do Sales people WANT to be recruited?

The market for both applicants and companies hiring right now is WILD y'all. So... How do AE's want to be approached by a company hiring? Does hearing from the hiring manager directly make a difference?

Most importantly, How the hell do I find and hire smart, talented, and most importanly, motivated sales people?

Tell me how much money you're offering me, what % of your team made quota, and what the bottom 10% took home. Everyone wants to tout the top 10%, but the bottom will give real insights to minimum compensation.

What if instead they messaged you in bulk on LinkedIn, with little to no details about anything?

100%. That is exactly how you get our attention. Don't waste your time or my time beating around the bush.

I cannot tell you how many recruiters ghost me after I ask them those questions - so if you reach out on first touch with that info, they'll know you mean business.

Sure.  Also tell me why I'm a good candidate - what you see in my profile that caught your attention, and why you think I should talk to you.  It's amazing to me how many recruiters say "your profile is impressive" and then proceed to offer me a wildly inappropriate job, such as engineer.

Great points @Sunbunny31 Why me, why now. Show me you took the time to think about reaching out to me and didn't just pop my title into a search bar and send out blanket messages.

Love this.  So what I am hearing is - Tell you how much you will make, how many people in the seats are making that now, what my bottom rep is doing, and why I think you can succeed here.  Makes total sense.

You got it. I have no doubt you'll have better luck using that approach.

I am attempting to... how to say this delicately..... assist my recruiters.  They are just recycling the same tired-ass applicants over and over again.  We have a legit 2-year runway to do something impressive here, but I need talented people, and they arent the ones actively looking in most cases.  SO, this helps massively when I am reaching out.

You're going to have to poach the good ones, and that is always going to be a money first discussion. Or, take a chance on top performing reps outside your vertical. Either way, best of luck to you.

I want to know you've ACTUALLY read my profile. Don't come at me with bullshit SDR jobs when you see my experience.  Respect me. Damn it. 😎

Oooh, I’ve been there. Made me wonder what made them even think I’d remotely be a fit. I answered a few times asking if they’d had any luck convincing a Sr AE with over 20 years experience to take a look at their entry level position. Odd, I never heard back.

Awesome feedback on here already. As someone who just changed jobs I can offer why I took the initial call. It came from the most respected sales leader I have ever worked for.

I had plenty of other people reach out with generic bullshit as @OpalTiddyChurger and @Sunbunny31 laid out. But when she called I listened because I respected her. So if you can reach into your network, thatll be far more effective that relying on your recruiters to bring you sorry ass candidates as you outlined.

Sounds like from the feedback the message should look something like this:

Hey Rep,
Reaching out about an opening on our team.  Comp is structured with a  45/55 split, X as the base, X as the OTE.  Currently 80% of our team is trending over their OTE.  Low performers trending towards 65% (joined in Q2).  No outbound or cold calling, strictly demos and deal management.

I reached out to you specifically because (1 or 2 things about the candidate).

Would you be interested in a conversation?  Our interview process is as slim as can get, an initial call with myself,  and a final panel style with our VP and both Directors.

Like opal said, we want the deets, the full numbers and package, and we want to know this will not be a marathon interview process.

Ah, that last point is very important, good call out.  State the full process upfront.

Tell me the pay off the bat; don’t dance around it. Give me insights into the sales cycles and how likely I am to hit quota based on the teams average. Tell me about onboarding and what I could expect. AND connect the dots - how is this sales position relevant to my current/past experience? What about the product or my previous positions makes me look like a good fit?

Not with “I love your experience at Company X”
Agree with being upfront with comp, quota attainment, sales technology, the company and new products, and median AEA

I don’t know if recruiters have a big mad really intelligent piece of software which helps them know when people are looking but I got approached by a guy on Monday when I was looking and he calmly said we offer X do you want a chat? And yes, it’s worked a dream. He literally just said ‘hey, you seem good, do you want a chat?’
That’s what drew me in. No pitch nothing.

Reach out to me on Linkedin and show me you at least know what I do now and why it would translate to the role you have open and are recruiting for. If it's obvious that the recruiter is using a sequence and just plugged me in hoping to get a bite I'm going to delete and ignore you forever. Also fuck Michael Page that place sucks.
