Sales Layoffs

I've been seeing a lot of posts on LI about people losing their sales jobs but I've also seen so many people starting new sales jobs. I'm curious, have you been laid off?

Laid off in 2001, and department eliminated in 2011, which resulted in a WARN with the company (found another position within the company within 2 weeks). Belt tightening (but no layoffs) in 2008. We will see how the economy holds up, I suppose.

@jefe Yeah, I am surprised that sales people would be let go since we generate revenue. I do see LOTS of posts from Sahil, at least he’s trying to help.

It's an easy, though short-sighted, lever to pull. Quick way to cut costs but foolish.

And agreed, though he's been a bit alarmist at times. I must say that the recent lay-off specific post is a great initiative

Started me on an incredible journey.

Left the office in a daze. Went and got a haircut. Walked home.

Work was pretty hard to find at the time (early 2009). I did some side hustles, including some copywriting for the company that laid me off. Biggest source of income was writing college papers. Made a website and posted on ads on Craigslist. Was able to pay the rent until I found another solid gig.

@braintank That’s impressive! Copywriting is a good skill to have and writing college papers can be lucrative. Students are lazy 😂

Not yet. My company is bootstrapped though and has a couple of hundred open positions. Layoff seems unlikely. But who knows.

There's been a number of layoffs already. Terminus, Lacework, Mural, Klarna, ClickUp, Bolt, just to name a few. There's definitely way more coming. Sahil was right.
