Sales People Hobbies or How I learned to Love Birding

My people,


What are some hobbies you've picked up or do to feel alive? I'm a big believer in not monetizing your hobbies so they stay that way but I'm always blown away by the range of hobbies for sales folks. Everything from wine collecting to birding to sailing to amateur florist creations - I've heard it all and love it.


What's keep you all active and alive outside of closing BALLER ASS deals? I put a poll up to see if people are more indoor or outdoor but want to hear what else you do!

I play the bass guitar. Preferred genre, prog rock. Favorite bands and most influential players: Yes, Chis Squire - Rush, Geddy Lee. Been at it as long as I’ve been selling. Keeps me sane.

I play drums so we can start an anonymous War Room band. Everyone meet in LA in ski masks.

Playing music is such a good stress relief and helps keep a different side of your brain active.

All good things, I'm just starting to puzzle - my wife has done many but I don't think I'd done one since elementary school.

I do like crosswords, but I just don't get Sudoku. I'm sure I can figure it out as I'm generally not a dummy, but I've just never had it click. I much prefer words to numbers - except the ones on my commission cheques.

I love the water too. Walking by the ocean is maybe my favorite thing. I may try scuba soon.

Actually I’m trying to get more into fishing. Any tips for starting with a rod and gear that’s suitable for lakes or oceans?

Nice! Water life is the best! For rods and reels there are so many options I could go on forever. I would go to your local pro shop or large retailer with $300 and they’ll get you what you need. Fishing is such a great release so try it a few times. You be hooked:)

I love working on cars and driving, occasionally on track.

And I’ve been boxing for a couple years now, started as a way to get some exercise and release frustration but my competitive side came out and now I’m having fun in the ring too

I wish I knew cars better but my dad wasn’t the type to teach me that sadly. Always jealous of people with tons of car knowledge.

I love boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ! Started the same and got super into it. Great way to stay in shape and humble yourself.

My dad didn’t teach me anything either, but I was into cars so I got a job for a couple years at a shop that built hot rods and restored old cars. And there’s always the university of YouTube. What kind of cars are you into?

Haha my first BJJ class a 19 year old woman who is maybe less than half my wait kicked my ass and I immediately knew I needed to stay humble.

I’ve kinda become obsessed with electric cars and how they work. If I could learn to work on them I’d be the king of the castle.

I just cannot get into electric cars, I’ve driven a few and they are definitely fast but I miss the engagement. I like shifting and feeling like I’m part of the car. I can’t help but feel like I’m an afterthought in an electric car

Haha dude it’s not bad. You can go 100% if she is. Trust me if a woman is in that class and wants to spar you go as hard as anyone else. We had a few UFC fighters and one champ in our class and she would always roll or spar with bigger dudes to prep.

That’s a super unique take my dude! I ever thought about it but you kind of are in an electric. It’s more about the drive than controlling it. Maybe that’s why I enjoy them? Well that and having a solar system at home so I don’t pay for fuel at all.

We haz 2 muskmobiles and panels too. I haven’t been to the gas station in 6 months— for gas anyway. I get the love for a bigass V8 in front of a 6 speed manual transmission. But the Tesla torque is a whole different thing.

You’ve already started! Birding is free form my dude. The boomers will tell you it has to be a way but younger birders are way more lenient on what counts. I have a local bird chart from a university close to me and identify that way but still use Merlin or Audobon app. <br><br>The more you bird the more you learn to bird. The fun is in getting outside and being able to spot a Townsend warbler vs a common yellowthroat or seeing a bird you don’t know and learning. It’s mostly a way to gamify a hike.
