Minor adjustment: Substitute your plight with someone else's, like say, your grandma. Something along the lines of "it would really be a shame if my grandma can't get the liver transplant she so desperately needs" looks way less self-centered than your approach.

You can see what they are trying to do, but I agree with Cadence. Desperation with a hint of aggression.

Dislike, that makes your company look bad too cause even if they buy it who are they to buy from a sales rep thats close to getting fired. Company starts to think. “What are they missing about you? Is my sale rep lieing about the product?” Just puts doubt in the mind of the customer.

Gross. Even if this were true - the prospect has no obligation to help you keep your job.

This is aggressive. If you have the relationship with the customer, I don't see anything wrong with making the ask they close a little early because it benefits you (I do this end of every fiscal) but guilting them... I don't like it.

I'd word it slightly differently but our director let's us throw her under the bus every quarter if it helps close sales.  It works and people are pretty understanding and want to help <3

upon further inspection, yeah it's a sales tactic. If I was the recipient of that email I'd test the waters, reply on the 31st day.

Feels like there’s some much needed context here on how the conversation has progressed up til this email… I don’t know anyone that’s ever lost their job over one deal.

It makes sense but feels gross. Like a vendor begging you to buy their cheap wares so they can make money as if it’s your responsibility

Yeah I'm taking a hard pass on this, I've considered it, it's desperate, it's unethical, I would NOT recommend going this route, might as well go out and start panhandling...

My quota is not my prospects problem. This is pretty bad and is a self fulfilling prophesy. That will immediately make the prospect think "is everything this person said true or are they just telling me what I want to hear to save their job"

I think you can go with the same type of tactic, but centered around reporting depending on the rapport you have.

Like hey, I have to create some forecasts this is a deal and I'm sure you're dealing with stuff from your bosses. Can you help me understand if I should forecast this as something for this month/quarter etc.

There is no honour amongst thieves... but come on now. Maybe try making YouTubes about people who cant close deals instead.

I had a client do this to me, we were deciding on an exclusive channel partner for med device in Japan.

He bet his career on landing us but could not get his leadership to commit to the volumes the competition were ready to meet.

I wonder if he got canned.

Damn, I almost feel bad for this person but at the same time, have some respect.

I've always had the mindset that if one deal makes or breaks your career, you didn't have much of a career path ahead of you anyways. Fill that pipe, baby!

The correct answer is both in the poll, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sales tactic that should be used. It’s desperate and no one you want to do business with is going to respond positively to this.
