Sales VP, do you use outsourced lead gen ?

I am getting many emails people pitching for lead gen services. I am just AE, I won't buy anything from these lead gen agencies. how many of you AEs get these service pitches ? are they worth it?

I am not talking about product pitches like Zoominfo and alike.. I am talking about people who want to be your outsourced SDR?

Not a sales VP, but it could be good! I have used it via other funding methods from company to get support on territories where I did not speak the language. We only paid for actual meetings. If meeting didn't happen or criteria was not a match then they had to replace it.

I am sure everyone gets it. We have started using a third party for prospecting but the results and lead quality pretty much suck.

We got new leadership who basically broke our SDR team. When we expanded into EMEA, we started using one and the results have been great because it's basically under separate management and process.

I work in Med Device. We sell equipment and service contracts.

I see ZERO value in lead gen services. What are they doing to help you build a relationship and increase the LTV of the customer?

I want my customers to know who I am and that I'm ready to help when they have a need. Not someone who has zero desire to solve their problem.

If I have a list of emails, I can send out about 80 an hour. Easily touching 200-300 ICPs a week.

We use ZoomInfo religiously. Having the ICP business and personal email along with direct line and cell? Golden.

I get a ton of these lazy, auto-blast 'pitches' that just go straight to my spam folder.

I really don't see the value in outsourcing SDR teams...

I just get ones offering me lead lists. As if as an IC I’m buying those. 🙄

Would it be helpful? I feel like the biggest issue with outsourcing is any sort of knowledge of industry/product

A friend of mine owns/runs a small outsource company. They are US based and niche focused.

Based on my conversations with him I’d say the success in outsourcing depends heavily on 1) setting the right expectations between both parties 2) allowing the outsource to have some independence in their process.

It’s definitely not for every company, but for small businesses or getting into a new market could be a great investment.

There are a couple of sources - either list buying for events/customers, intent marketing lists, or just outsourced SDRs. I find the ease of use/cost is cheapest to most expensive. I also find outsourced SDRs to be garbage.

I've used a few of those agencies at different times. It was never more than a stopgap. The good ones do work but they churn through leads at an alarming rate and are only as good as the data lists that feed them.

Not a suitable replacement for a true outbound team long term.

Stay away.

I`ve first-hand experience in this.

We got some budget from our partner company and hired an agency to do outreach from our VP of Sales` LinkedIn profile and try to book meetings. They also posted content from his profile every two days.

This went on for 3 months and there were next to zero results, no real meeting being booked and they still needed a lot of our guidance.

So, waste of money, waste of time, waste of outbound messages sent.

No one sells your product better than you. Lead gen companies are selling your product and who knows how many others. I wouldn’t want to put my pipeline and my earning potential in the hands of a 3rd party.

for SMB I'll always test it. Getting the right CAC / LTV for SMB can be really tough with an in-house team and an outsourced sales/lead gen team can save a lot of overhead. Usually try to find industry specialists and get a word-of-mouth referral.

I never used them for actual outreach. But I have used some cost-effective companies to build target lists that were quite helpful.

You can’t pay for leads (if securities licensed).

I believe they're just frequent emails many of us could receive.
US based reps wouldn't find it pretty useful, however people from abroad for guys like me might find it a valuable opportunity as a sales job seeker who wants to get to the US market without a need to travel, same as my current company that does outsourcing for multiple countries with different languages!

Worked for a large tech company that would occasionally engage outsourced agencies to break into companies, as a BDR layer. There was always a lot of optimism when they started, but inevitably the leads were terrible. I remember one we used - every single appointment set by this agency no-showed. Every one.
