Seeking career advice(Newbie)

Posting this because I feel somewhat lost, I decided to go into tech sales 4 weeks ago and I've been job searching. I feel like a few things are against me
- I'm in Lagos, Nigeria seeking a role abroad
- I don't have SDR experience
I'm asking the community if this might be an issue or something
I had a business I run for 3 years( used this as my experience, I know how to talk to clients)
Now that this is out of the way
These are my questions;
1.) What advice would you give someone like me
2.) What separates the good SDRs from the great SDRs
3.) When I get an offer, how do I know the company is a good fit?

You might want to consult the all knowing and hyper talented @Maximas. He's our resident Egyptian. Nobody here can actually figure out how he found a job... in Cairo.

Thanks for tagging closer..
Welcome on Board @offkey.
It all stared with me through the outsourcing companies that are handling outside businesses for US/CAN/UK...
So,I highly recommend you to see if any Nigerian companies do sales outsourcing currently, tech sales is a plus in your case that should be your no.1 option.
If you couldn't you would have still 2 other options to count on depending whether the US based companies are accepting applicants from abroad to do business with em or not, and in this regard let me refer you to Gasty's posts that have the title of "Who's hiring",and just make sure that you're including tech sales in your search to get more relevant opportunities and that would be your second option.
Finally, you can apply though other hiring platforms like LI&Indeed or even social media but for the latter, particularly on FB it's more into commish only roles with little to no base so please consider.
Hope that helps!

Brilliant. Lots of applications will auto decline when you say you live outside the country the company is based in. You might try lead gen companies like Callbox, Cience, etc. They hire all around the world and would help build up your experience.

Oh my goodness
Thank you soooo much
I’d check if anyone is outsourcing

I’ve also been checking remote websites

Welcome on here and go you for choosing sales 🙌 Nothing is an issue unless you make it an issue in your head. Do not limit yourself.

Don't give up after 1 month. Keep trying

1. Do you have anyone who could recommend you into a company? If not, can you find someone?

Have a story. I was hired as SDR because I told a story. Basically that I was sick of being unemployed and I'll take it even if it's part time because I want to change my life around. Obviously don't take shitty conditions either but show passion and that you want it

Keep asking for advice here. People have SO much experience to share and they do.

2. Good SDR talks to everyone. All the AEs, all the managers, managers managers especially when you're new. Look for mentors. A lot of people shy away from this.

Call like you've never called before.

Show you're hungry

3. I go by gut feeling. Sometimes I just think wow that person was amazing or this or that. And it's worked for me

Do they teach SDRs how to work and is there someone who believes in you? That's a good sign

Good luck!

When a company lists a job as remote, 90% of the time the hiring manager(s) and company have an ideal location in mind. Hypothetical: Let's say Acme Enterprises based in California is hiring for a remote SDR role. Unless the company uses a third party provider like Deel, Plane, or Ceridian etc., for remote hires they most likely will not hire someone from a country that does not have an international tax treaty with the U.S., unless that company has an in-country presence. To help you focus your search, understanding the hiring process is crucial, check the location of a company's employees using LinkedIn to see if they have hired employees from your country before. Understanding international business and what companies work with your country can shed some interesting insights rather than mindlessly applying to jobs on LinkedIn where you may never have had the chance due to the law.

Welcome to The War Room and good luck in your search!

Yes yes, I’ve been doing this too
Thing is I’m not even mindlessly applying
I made a video(saying how I can make an impact on the companies sales team) I go on Apollo to get VP of sales email or hiring manager or head of sales management and just shoot them a cold email
Some have replied(but I think once they see location they lose interest), some haven’t

I’d keep networking and checking

Are you looking to move, or to work for a company that's abroad?

Do you have any contacts who are already abroad at a company that you're interested in? Can you network to find out more about opportunities?
