Should I apply to be an AE at a new company or an SDR

Background: I've been an SDR for two years now & my company has no growth path to AE.

Should I apply to become an AE at a new company or start as an SDR again. The reason I ask is because I have no closing experience and feel being an SDR will get me familiar with the product. The risk there is I end up in my current position where they keep me an SDR.

Any thoughts? What would you do in my position?

SMB AE, if you have the skillset and track record to back it up, always try to move up.

Yes, this is exactly right.
Go for it. Never, ever be the one to tell yourself no. If you get no traction with AE but get SDR offers at solid companies with upward paths, then consider it.

Good luck!

Try both and see what kind of traction you get.

If you get no AE interviews... then there is your answer.

Shoot for AE. SMB is most likely. Lateral moves are for suckers.

Go for AE. Gather your wins and pitch yourself.

Try both but would recommend going for an SMB AE role.

You can try, but anything more than an SMB AE and they probably won't consider you.
If you do apply for the AE route, prospect the heck out of the hiring manager to prove you have the chops.

Apply to be an AE, you have had enough experience as an SDR now.
