Should I wait out this market or jump ship?

First off, shoutout to everyone in this community, you guys rock.

In my previous post I asked if I should aim to become an AE at another company with only having SDR experience. The horror stories I'm reading now about AE's being put on pip and being laid off makes me wonder if it's even worth it.

We restructured at my current company so the compensation plan is good, however no clear career path. Becoming an SDR elsewhere seems pointless because I hit a learning ceiling by only booking meetings.

What would you do in my shoes, stay at my current company until the job market clears with better opportunities or still look for a role regardless of market conditions.

Why not test the waters, the market isn't the best so it will take longer to receive an offer.
What is your current company saying about an AE promotion

Going to bring it up again to my VP today. They don't give me a clear answer usually, but this was before our restructure.

Even more of a reason to start looking. Ask them what you need to do to get promoted and have it be hard numbers that once you hit, you will be promoted. But given the lack of a clear answer, i would test the waters

no clear response. Opportunities may open up this quarter, not betting on it & applying actively.

Unfortunate, but thatโ€™s the right course of action. Good luck!

If you lack the confidence then you won't succeed regardless of the market. If you're happy enough where you're at, then stay in your lane.

There's nothing wrong with looking and applying to roles you're interested in. You can then make a qualified decision about an offer when it happens.
And yes, there are stories of AEs getting PIPed, fairly or unfairly. But life is a risk and a gamble. Every job comes with risk, but if you learn to control what you can control and do your very best as you go, you'll learn.

Still look for a role regardless. You never know you might end up getting what you always wanted. Never stop!

you can always apply. you're not obligated to jump :)

also, it's never the perfect time so wait until you find something you want but don't doubt when you find it.
