Software or Hardware sales?

Whats up savages, Happy New Year!!

Met with a friend of mine who is an IT reseller over Xmas, I am considering something I know little about.. Finding a hardware sales role as I just feel like SaaS is soooooooo over populated, does this sound like a good or bad idea?

Also, I am looking for the most lucrative industrys to consider, so far I have been suggested medical, pharma, fintech, defence, AI (my fave) and some others..

The problem is that I dont have any experience with these technology's :/

Any insights welcome ๐Ÿ™

This feels a bit like a search for the magic sales pill. There are lots of software sellers, buyers, users and groupies. Itโ€™s the same with any product. I donโ€™t think any of us hang our pride hat on what we sell. Itโ€™s about the money. If there was $500k to make in the next 6 months selling used oats, fresh out of the horse, Iโ€™m in.

Itโ€™s about PMF.

*Technologies, industries. If you know so little about it, what makes you say it is overpopulated?
This is a lazy post. Give us more. What do you mean by soft or hard? What are you skills? You certainly won't make it far with this sort of effort.

What I mean to ask is, is software sales oversaturated both in terms of candidates and products, as opposed to hardware sales
I've got 15 years of selling experience, I have been selling SaaS for the last 3 years or so, but feel it's oversaturated and a friend of mine has been selling IT Hardware for the last 15 years and says it's always going to be a winner

SaaS is just software sales. As with anything in sales, how well the product does in the market will depend on the usual nice to have/need to have PMF and if you have a solid solution and good company behind it.
The same is true with hardware. You might take a look and see that's a crowded market as well.
You could probably say that about any industry, to be honest. There's more than one auto manufacturer out there, for example.

hardware sales usually doesn't have incredible margins so it's a volume play. IF the volume is there than hell yeah

Nice! Good advice, do you have experience in hardware sales? If so, what products are good to sell?

Im in servers and components. Its a tough gig to win.

Alot of places will tell you commissions are unlimited. The thing is you can sell $300M in revenue to get $300k in commissionโ€ฆ shout out to company superbad.

There are smaller companies that will give 10% so you sell $3M and get $300kโ€ฆ they obviously have their reasons.

I don't see hardware gaining in popularity over software in the future - maybe Chips for AI, but servers and laptops I wouldn't chance my future on. Software / SaaS at least you have a chance at new tech/developments

In this market, you should work in whatever industry will employ you at a half way decent company.

Honestly a widget is a widget. Doesnโ€™t matter if itโ€™s hardware, software, or something else. Sell something you believe in.

I sell hardware (lighting) and itโ€™s easy to make $150-250k. If you run your own sales firm it could be double (or more) than that. I couldnโ€™t stand all the layoffs that seem to happen in the software space though. I feel like we hear about it constantly.
