Solution to all problems, more meetings?

This is not a rant but genuinely curious question as IC on a behaviour I observe and can't relate to it. I have to work with many mgmt folks (internally and also with customer facing). The types that won't go into details and have no interest to get into details (Just want problem to be Fixed and not be bothered). If you make them uncomfortable by asking for support or real problem solving at mgmt level, they would respond back with more monitoring on the task and keep adding meetings weekly , alternate days or daily to ask the same questions. There are more people asking the questions than people solving the problem to unblock me in key account.

Is this a normal behavior in the large corps everywhere? I see uppper mgmt do nothing other than having 15 minute - 30 min calls to fill their days.. Is there a method to this madness?

Any scientific / mgmt theory on solving problems by putting meetings?

Have they solved any problem at all? If you look at how many problems they solved so far, because they had these meetings - you'll have your answers.

My personal take - more meetings are red flags, one that's always evident.

Quite Normal.

These are the ones who won't even go on vacations, else the company would find out it can function without them.

thiiiiis sucks.
the large companies I have worked with this is very common. some people just cant get shit done.
Here is what i would do:

be the guy to call it out.
if there is a meeting, make sure at the end of the meeting YOU specifically call out what the action items are AND what questions are yet to be solved.

if another meeting is set make sure you ask what the goal of the next meeting is, who is doing what between now and then.

this may cause ppl to be annoyed at you, BUT if you get stuff done then you will be known as the guy who gets shit done, and saves everyone time

You mean become the person who treats everyone as sheep? 😂

I actually get pretty offended and annoyed when a senior VP puts a daily weekly recurring 15 min meeting with no interest to help , no real intent to see the problem fixed , but purely to activate / wake up the middle managers to put more monitoring on me (and the middle managers want to keep judging how crisp my deck and next steps are )..

I feel like saying “dude, you really see your people sheep huh? And your job to be a herding ? I am surprised to see your judgement of time “

Is this normal way of life in large corps everywhere? Or am I mentally sick and need help?

A hard but valuable lesson I learned from a mentor of mine. NEVER bring up a problem that you don't intend to solve. If you bring up a problem... paint the picture, give the financial and internal impact then hit them with 2-3 possible solutions. From that position, the conversation becomes a tactical conversation versus a hypothetical one. Show that you're a problem solver and challenge other stakeholders to take ownership. I can't help but stress that this right here is where career jumps are made. You're showing your peers/leadership that you lead by example and that you take ownership of what comes before you. This alone builds trust and credibility which is invaluable.

Like your take and resonate with it.

but what if the problem space is in the mgmt realm you have no intention to solve ( you are an IC because you don’t want to solve problems that mgmt should be solving)
