Stay or go?

current role: SMB AE $110k OTE.

pick between 2 roles:
internal promo. mid-market AE. $140k OTE 50/50 split. all inbound, some outbound to existing customers. quota is hit or miss. remote. unlimited pto. stock options.

new company. mid-market AE. $128k OTE 50/50 split. all outbound to new/existing customers, some inbound. quota is attainable and top performers are >200% to goal making $300-$350k in their 2nd year. remote. unlimited pto. restricted stock units.

EDIT: For context, last month NO reps hit quota in Option 1 & ALL reps hit quota in option 2.

Option 1 by FAR.

The new company sounds enticing, but I've been sold that "Top performers are WAY OVER QUOTA" dream before, and realized it was for one quarter during a new product launch.

I'd honestly take that promotion, grind it out, and make a move when you have experience working larger deals.

I would never go off of what recruiters or hiring managers say about "top performers" its almost never true and when there is some truth to it there's usually a catch. Find out what the average rep is performing at.

Option 1 is where I'm at.

If you are an inbound person and cannot hustle with outbound then option A oresle B.

My take will be option 2.

Questions:
1) Which option looks like you can learn the most about selling (who has the better sales managers, sales leaders, training, etc.)?
2) On a scale of 1 - 10, how do you like working at your current company?
3) What percentage of reps hit their quota at the new company (rarely trust the “top performers” crap unless you know someone on the inside)?

Why is quota hit or miss for option 1? What % of the team is hitting quota and what resources are in place to do so? Is the inbound quality strong? What are top producers making there? What’s everyone else making?
Why is outbound less $? How many top performers are there, how are they getting there and what’s your probability of getting there as well?
Are they in the same market? If not, what’s ramp for option 2 and what does enablement look like? Is there strong PMF & demand? Are you better at inbound or outbound?
Too many variables.

Wow this is a tough one!

Initially I thought go for option 2 because of the over performance but then I got to thinking- if they're adding new people, will there still be enough opps for top performers to hit 200%+...

Then option 1 became super appealing because all inbound + upsells sounds real nice right now as I've had a rough October. 😂

Questions to think about:
- With option 1, are your quotas based off monthly, quarterly or yearly? And with that, do you get accelerators for hitting quota/how is that measured?
- Do you enjoy your current company or do you need a new set of colleagues?

For option 2 - what are the bottom 25% of reps doing? And how many reps are hitting quota. Everyone loves to sell the dream of their top reps but the truth lies with the middle to bottom performers. I would sus that out before making a decision.

You should know that info for the internal option.

I'll go with option 2 😊
But it's just imo.

Hmm… I’m leaning towards option 2, but I know that companies can spin some shit. Understand what their average rep makes, what percentage of reps hit or beat quota, how long it typically takes for reps to hit/beat quota, etc. Definitely don’t blindly take that job from only their hiring manager saying “top performers are 200% to quota” because what does that actually mean… 1 rep? 2 reps? 20 reps?

Option 2 makes me nervous because "top performers" = how many out of how many?  Is it 2 out of 100?  And how are the average performers doing?  Also almost all outbound is rough.

Only read the headline so take this for what it’s worth, but if you have to ask, leaving is generally the answer.
