Take the money? Or bet on the future. - Where would you work?

ok savages Give me your thoughts on this, where would you work:

Company A:

  • Currently has an OK product,
  • publicly traded company launching a new product,
  • product is a few years old and has some big holes in it.
  • Brand recognition is really strong and have good people running it
  • they say they want to double down on enterprise customers (thats what I sell too) but its not clear.
  • The plans for this product are awesome and in a few years I could see it being a game changer......but its hard to tell is a few years is 2 years....or like 6 years.

Company B:

  • Is a competitor to company A.
  • Has a better product now,
  • Bringing in tons of customers, lots of opportunity
  • They are offering me a base of $130k MASSIVE increase, and an OTE that is $100k higher.

What would you choose????

Company B seems like a no brainer but what If i stay put and it really pays off in a few years?

Worth it?

^ My thoughts exactly. Can’t control the future and you don’t want to have any regrets. All you can do is use the info that’s in front of you now.
Company B. Then convince them to let me join you @TennisandSales

Based off this I'd go with B, barring any culture red flags.

Company B - A lotta companies have awesome product road maps, but that doesn't mean they even get close to implementing them.

B. Sticking around a public company that is losing to another player is just another sinking ship. You missed the payoff of the IPO, so you either stay around for your RSUs to vest or get out now.

B.   Patience can be a virtue, but in this case could personally cost you a lot of $$.  Also nothing to keep you from returning to company A downroad if/when they get their act together.

Opportunity today is worth more than opportunity "in a few years". B would be me choice.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I have been in smaller companies with a much better product than the larger, well-known competitor (better product, better price, etc.).  While Company B seems like a better opportunity as described above, never discount the value of a big name.  Creates a lot of comfort for decision makers.

6 years would be too long to wait for an improved product and even if it was 2 years ago a lot can change between now and then (think about any 2 year stretch from 2018 until now)

B has a better product and pay's more? B all day every day. A sold product roadmap for company A is cool and all, but if the product is currently sub-par, nothing guarantees they'll be relevant long enough to implement it. and they've already shown their dev team isn't the best so who knows if they'll do a good job implementing it.
