My dad dealt with buying technology for his division while working for a government agency. He told me all about the bullshit that goes into procurement, so, my condolences.

my first SDR role out of college was govtech. I crushed it as an BDR and really liked the job, but the sales cycle was so long that our meetings never turned into contracts, and they let the entire sales team go except the director and started from scratch lol. I credit a lot of my success to this role tho. Pure outbound to gatekeepers with no prospecting tool like zoominfo or anything, so we really had to sink or swim

Congrats!

I used to sell educational software, while public not quite government.

I did present to a state's board of education though, so that might count?

Congrats man! I had been selling non-tech product to govt and getting the money from them really sucked for me.

Sold to the fed for 6 years. Absolutely loved it. Mainly IT products as a reseller and then staff aug to military bases.ย

What are the sales cycles like and how awful is procurement selling to gov...?

Depends what value you're at.ย

Generally under $30k for a small govt or $100k for a large govt it's a simple process. Three quotes through a reseller.ย

Sales cycle varies wildly. On the low end 3 weeks, on the high end...

Some of my accounts are SLED - State, Local, Educational

I have found that getting a net-new sale from them is immensely time consuming and fraught with red tape and bureaucracy. Even over small things.

But, once you're in, you're in. Keep that MSA renewing and keep checking their license counts annually and you're sure to see a constant revenue stream that ALWAYS pays it's bills on time.
